McCaulou's Department Store — Local services in Lafayette

Today, I visited your store once again. I purchased a sweater while taking care of my small child, who I had to constantly chase around the store. Afterward, we went to look at cosmetics.

To my shock and disappointment, two saleswomen began following us closely, repeatedly glancing into my stroller and even into my shopping bag. Their behavior was invasive, humiliating, and completely uncalled for — especially considering I am a regular customer at your store.

They clearly suspected me of theft, without any reason or evidence. When I offered to show them the contents of my bag to clear up any suspicion, they declined — confirming that their actions were based on nothing more than prejudice.

I strongly believe I was targeted because of how I look — possibly due to racial bias, as I’ve been told I “look Mexican.” If that is the case, it is absolutely unacceptable and discriminatory.

I expect a formal apology and appropriate action to be taken regarding this matter. No customer deserves to be treated with such suspicion and disrespect — especially in front of...

Very small store so you won't find a lot of inventory but I did find a few cute pieces of clothing, all on sale. Several people asked me if I needed assistance which was nice to receive customer service. They lock their dressing room doors which I find irritating. It's a small store, with the cash register literally right next to the changing room and in Lafayette!! Not everyone is a criminal. In fact, most of us aren't so stop treating us like we are especially when the changing room is in clear view of staff. They don't check what you carry in so what's the point of locking them? McCaulou's is a wonderful full service department store where you can find good values. I hate to shop and actually avoid large malls, shopping centers and crowded places. This store has more of an "old fashion" feel, in a good way. They carry a wide selection quality merchandise. Their baby/children's department has excellent selections that make buying gifts easy. Gift wrap is free on purchases over $15. Their sales racks always have good selections and reasonable prices. This place is a true gem with helpful staff and something for everyone in...
