I recently had the pleasure of visiting Sideboard for breakfast and, overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The scrambles were delicious, the cozy atmosphere exuded warmth and charm, and the lattes were of commendable quality. However, I feel compelled to share some constructive feedback, as the service during my visit left much to be desired.
I must preface my remarks by stating that I typically refrain from leaving negative reviews. However, in this particular instance, the issue primarily lies with the service. The majority of the staff members I encountered during my visit were friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, a specific incident tarnished an otherwise pleasant experience.
Upon ordering eggs Benedict with hard-boiled eggs, I was disappointed to find that the eggs were runny. I kindly requested one of the servers to have the eggs poached hard instead. It was at this point that an encounter with one of the servers, K, occurred, which I found rather disheartening. K abruptly turned around in front of me and addressed me with a curt tone, questioning, "What does HE want?" Although taken aback, I reiterated my request for the eggs to be poached hard. Regrettably, K responded with, "Well, did you take a bite of it?" I promptly informed her that I had not, hoping for a resolution. To my dismay, she returned the plate exactly as it was before, without fulfilling my request.
I must emphasize that the staff at Sideboard is typically exceptional, and this establishment deserves to have servers who embody the original vision of a friendly, comfortable, and welcoming neighborhood spot. Sideboard holds immense potential, and it is evident that considerable effort has been invested in making it the establishment it is today. However, I implore the management not to overlook this issue, as it undermines the overall experience for both customers and the community it serves.
In conclusion, Sideboard offers a delightful breakfast experience with scrumptious scrambles and a cozy atmosphere. Nevertheless, improvements in the service department are crucial to fully realizing the establishment's true potential. I sincerely hope that management addresses this concern promptly and diligently, ensuring that Sideboard maintains its reputation as a cherished...
Read moreThe food is 3 stars for me. Could be 4 stars overall because I really like the vibe, what they're about and what they're trying to do. After multiple experiences here though, it's just an average place for me.
First time: Went in the morning and I got the chilaquiles, my husband got the breakfast mac.
The chilaquiles was pretty good; I generally prefer a green sauce and they didn't even have an option so that was a little disappointing. I also feel like when a good chilaquiles first comes out the chips still have a bit of crunch and get soggy as the sauce sets in. They came out completely soggy already and not even hot.
The mac was pretty tasteless, a very basic mac. They had some crunchy bits in it which helped a bit. The breakfast mac has eggs and bacon on it, so again that helped but the mac alone needs some work.
Also was uncomfortably bloated after the meal even tho I didn't eat a lot...
Bloody Mary was good.
2nd time: Some months later and I tried their takeout/bake at home Mac and cheese. It was good but VERY rich, made with bechamel. I added some of my own chili garlic oil which helped cut the richness. Probably wouldn't have enjoyed it without that.
3rd time: Was invited here by a friend to meet up. I got the fried chicken sandwich & a chai. Chai was sorely lacking flavor. Chicken sandwich was good; I liked that it seemed covered in panko so nice crunch. But overall still missing something for me.
This is not a place I would ever choose to come based on these experiences, but I would be willing if that's where someone...
Read moreThis clearly wasn’t my type of place. I usually wouldn’t leave a review in this case, but our experience really takes the cake. Find your own table, find your own silverware, find your own water. No waiters, just food runners and one cashier, yet you still need to tip. Imagine the vibe of an old-school Abercrombie, fashionable but unfriendly, overpriced, and mediocre quality. My girlfriends eggs Benedict had an over cooked egg so what even is the point. Walked in a little confused on whether we should wait to be seated or take a table or what, so we hovered at the front looking over the menu. That’s when a older women in a black tank and cut-off jean shorts kind of shoved her way past us to return some menus (later I figured she was the manager or owner or something). No ‘excuse me,’ much less a ‘can I help you.’ I do apologize to the cashier because I rolled my eyes hard when I asked for a coke and she said they just have organic so and so soda. Saw the manager from before being rather rude to our food runner about wiping down tables. Again though, he did nothing but bring our food, ask if we got everything (not if there was anything more we needed), then asked if we were done to take out plates (which still had food on it). Felt pushed out the door. If you like trendy and pretentious, meh food, and probably decent booze, this place is for you. Again not my scene, but it really was a waste of a brunch with...
