When we walked in the GM was visibly watching me. It was very uncomfortable but I figured maybe there is frequent theft in the store? Perhaps he felt I looked suspicious? My husband took note as well and he in turn was watching him as he felt the GM was being inappropriate. We made our way through produce and picked up a few cold cuts from the deli. It was then we noticed he then focused his attention on a young girl for a while. He then pulled out a black phone and started following very close behind the young lady. My husband seen his device screen, the camera was open and blatantly focused on her rear end as he walked past us following the young lady. My husband then said to him " I see what you're doing, I'm going to report you" in a normal tone with a calm demeanor to which the GM nervously panted and turned bright red. My husband then said " give me your phone and get me a manager" the GM blurted out I am the manager and then started saying I'm sorry repeatedly he then pressed his phone to his chest and started walking away rapidly. He ran down the stairs and locked himself in a basement. He would not come out. When we were at the front of the store we seen him sneaking out the side exit and running to his car. Why would an innocent man not explain what he was doing? Why would he run and hide. We never threatened him or even raised our voices. But say hypothetical we did, why not wait for the police and tell his side of the story in that down stairs room? Or even in his car down the block , or at home and call the police himself? The other employees were also no help at all, they refused to call police. I had to call the police myself. The employees were smiling and at times laughing almost mocking our discomfort and dismay....
Read moreI've been going to this store for a long time, way before it was owned by Pete's market. It's very close to my house and convenient, but In the last few months I've found expired items which I'm always nice enough to take to the manager which they always just say "oh, thank you". Today my husband picked up a rotisserie chicken for a quick dinner and when I opened it there was blood were the legs are tied. I took a picture unfortunately I can't post it. My husband took it back and all the manager said was "oh yeah I wouldn't eat it if there was blood, you want your money back??" I guess Mr. Pete has so much money that he doesn't care about training his employees that they don't care about the seriousness of this issue. My entire family could've ended up in the hospital. I'm very disappointed that they didn't care, all I can do is share my experience. I will start to consider cermak produce or jewel for my future...
Read moreNot the best selection, but the only real grocery store in its immediate area. You can find the basics but for white people some things you'll need to drive down to Jewel for as they are hard to find here (a lot of spices and baking items for example).
The prices are reasonable but for items from the deli you should wait for a sale, and never buy a gallon milk here (the Walgreen's next door has gallons for 40-50% of Pete's cost).
The employees are okay, the stocking staff doesn't speak that much English and the deli/meat workers can be kind of rude but the cashiers and mangers are awesome, fast, friendly, and helpful.
Honestly, if you live nearby and have a car, just drive up to Aldi and Cermak if you need to save money, or Jewel if you're okay paying more for a much larger selection. but if you're on a budget and don't have a car, Pete's West Lawn will...
