This was my first visit as a customer and I loved the silk press done on my hair. I will never deny talent and skill. My hair looks beautiful.
Here's why the rating isn't higher:
Unfortunately I don't plan on returning for a few reasons. The "Senior" Stylist who did my hair told me that the range for a silk press started at $65 and goes up depending on the length and thickness. Well my hair is at shoulder length and not very thick at all. Most people say it's easy to manage. I was charged $90 for the silk press. I wasn't 100% sure how he came up with $90 from $65 but he did a good job. So I guess that's fine? I already was made aware that the cut would be $30. No problem at all. Total came out to $120. A bit too much from my experience.
When it came time to pay, he passive-aggressively insisted that I pay cash. I planned to pay with my credit card since it was far more than what I thought it would be. They accept credit cards. Unfortunately (for him), I wasn't going to pay cash and when I didn't buckle, he snatched my credit card and walked to the front to charge it. His attitude destroyed every chance of me wanting to leave a tip. I addressed it and he dismissed it. Not cool.
In addition, on two occasions during this visit, the "senior stylist" was very combative with the owner (who is really sweet) which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. If you're annoyed or upset, address it away from customers.
After speaking with my stylist back home in Texas and calling another salon that does silk presses not too far from me, they both notified me that I paid too much and should've deserved better customer service.
I was looking forward to returning and building a relationship with a stylist but this won't be the one for me. I can only take so much negative attitude. But again, I will never deny talent. I sincerely appreciated the work done. However, it wasn't worth $120 and a bunch...

Went there with my wife earlier and the place had a very strange smell and the hairdresser was extremely rude, should have taken that as a signâŚ.
My wife is from Brazil and has always gone to the same place in her home town. Naturally she was nervous about getting a haircut, but was needing one. We went in, and from the beginning she was rude and told me to sit down and wait, even though I wanted to be closer to my wife since she was nervous and doesnât know all the English jargon around haircuts. When my wife told her that she always has her hair wet before cutting because that is how they do it in Brazil to be able to cut it straight, she told her that a good hair dresser is able to cut hair straight if itâs wet and dry.
When she was finally finished, my wife took a look in the mirror and saw that her hair was longer on her left side than on her right. When she mentioned it, she said that it is because her hair is wavy. She was very very rude and when we were leaving, I was in such a rush to leave but still wanted be a decent person and leave a standard 15% tip and accidentally left a $15 dollar tip which my wife was really pissed about⌠When we got home my wife literally had a panic attack and saw that in the back it wasnât even straight and saw that some places were uneven after taking a shower and wetting her hair (which the hairdresser recommended). Tomorrow I am going to go get it fixed in another place, wish us luck!
SERIOUSLY, DO NOT GET YOUR HAIRCUTS HERE! YOU HAVE...
Read moreI came to this salon after rough experiences with Chicago male salon. I was looking for a stylist in my area that knew how to style black hair. I am soooo happy to have found Miss Vicky. She is so kind and knowledgeable about hair styling. She not only corrected the terrible mess Chicago male made of my hair but made me genuinely happy with my hair after she was done at a fraction of the cost of what I had spent at the other salon. She has years of experience of hair care of many different hair types. I was so pleased to see other clients pass by the shop window and happily wave to her as I was in the chair. She is really good at what she does and the shop is very welcoming. I've been twice now to get my hair done and I'm smiling ear to ear every day since. I had to give Ms Vicky a hug after my first visit because she was truly a light at the end of a dark tunnel compared to what I endured at the previous salon. She's been a salon owner since the 80s and her experience shows. Please give her an honest chance you won't be disappointed, I certainly was not. I will be counting on her to see me through my hair journey for months and...
