It's hard to feel like you can trust a car mechanic/shop when you've gotten over charged and burned at other places. That being said, Rafi's stands out among the rest. I have an older Mercedes that's starting to show signs of it's age, and every time I've brought it to Rafi he breaks down what he thinks is wrong, what parts he needs, and the costs associated between those and labor. If he discovers something else is wrong, I had a leaking fuel pump this last time rather than a failed seal which he'd suspected, he calls to talk over the new scenario to make sure I'm ok with change in service and new cost. His transparency and honesty make me feel safe leaving my car for service which has not been the case at other mechanics in the past. His cost for oil and brakes has been competitive even against places that specialize in those services. He uses quality parts and quality synthetic oil, and it's still a good price! His place is usually pretty busy so sometimes I've had to call back a time or two over the course of the day to make sure he's got room for my car, so know you may need to call more than once if you get voicemail the first time. Give it an hour and try again!
The other thing is that as a small shop, it's easier to get a service done that's more custom. The Ford edge had some cosmetic damage on the bumper and I asked him if there was anyway to replace the damaged reflective piece without replacing the whole bumper even though the clips needed to hold it in place underneath were damaged and weren't holding the current one on. He ordered just the reflective peice and his team installed it using some cleverly placed screws to lock it in place. What's crazy to me is at a glance it's impossible to notice the front had ever been damaged! I can find the screws if I get close in look, but they nearly match the finish of the reflective plate. I think I paid between $200-$300 for that between parts and labor in addition to like $80 for the oil change while it was already there and it was a quality fix rather than the hack job I'd attempted with the old piece.
There may be slightly cheaper places to go, but after getting burned a few times I personally can't stomach the personal risk I associate with cost leader mechanics. Rafi's strikes a remarkable quality of work while holding prices in the lower range. He's the only one I feel comfortable servicing my cars right now. Even in a more run down part of Colfax I feel safe leaving my car at the shop which is a crazy thing to me. Once you meet Rafi and hear the pride he has in his work you'll start...

Read moreThis place is a rip off and a scam. We bought an engine to have them install and they took parts off the old one and put on the newer one. Even worse, when they gave me the vehicle back it wouldn't drive in Drive or 3rd Gear on an automatic. They tried to use reverse psychology by calling us and telling us the labor was going to be $700 more than the original quote to have us give them the quoted amount. Manager was out of the country while workers worked on vehicle. Came back in town and did not take responsibility for their goof up. Definitely reporting to BBB and every other consumer protection agency. Stay away...
