I'll start off by saying, I read the reviews before writing mine, not to add to or effect my review in any way but to simply see what others experience have been and if anyone feels the same way on things as me. And I apologize in advance, I leave thorough and long reviews for places I feel deserve it, this place does....That said....review time! So I recently moved to the neighborhood, Christmas of 23, so about 4 months ago. I love diners and I try to find new spots to go to. I definitely enjoy the upscale niche Colorado diners and breakfast spots, but I find myself going back to classic type diners. I found hits the spot on Google maps, although I had seen the sign on Colfax a ton of times, as I live literally across the street. Initially, I went in twice for to-go orders and since then I typically go for Dine-in meals. Before I go into the food and service I've experienced let me offer some thoughts on other reviewers comments. I've seen it said the atmosphere is dated and could use a face lift. My thoughts are this, that absolutely could be true. It definitely has the atmosphere of a diner that was opened in the 60's and has little to nothing changed since then. That being said, I personally feel that it fits the overall experience you have when there. I can see my grandparents sitting there having a meal then years later I'm there, and nothing has changed, a great thing in my opinion. I do see what others say and that could either add to or take away from your own personal experience. The food at Hits The Spot is above the quality I expect from classic diner spots. First, the Pastrami Burger! I think anybody who's searched for their fave pastrami burger, find themselves at Crown on Colorado. Hits the spot pastrami burger is hands down The Best pastrami burger in Colorado. A nice diner burger topped with thick cut, lean and fantastically seasoned pastrami. Try it for yourself, I'd be willing to bet you will feel the same as me. The French fries are super crispy and unique, not the everyday shoestring style. Their breakfast is something I've come to look forward to on Saturday or Sundays with my daughter. She usually gets waffles with extra butter and whipped cream. The butter they serve on the waffles and pancakes is a highlight, really!! My daughter asks for extra! The pancakes are a great finish to the breakfast and are fluffy and perfectly griddled, if that's a thing!! Do yourself a favor and come in and try the Chile relleno breakfast. It is so darn good. The rellenos are crispy and smothered in some of the best Green Chile I've ever had. The potatoes are crisp but tender inside. Eggs are perfectly cooked. I once ordered 2 slices of 2 different pie and the awesome waitress gave me 2 slices of each!! The waitresses here are friendly and do their jobs gracefully. This place is usually pretty busy so expect a small wait but trust me, it's more than worth the wait. I can't give a good enough review for this simple and down home diner. From the staff to the food, it's a Colorado must visit, in my humble opinion. I hope all of you have a blessed...
Read moreWe were recommended this place by a work partner who stated they're friends with the restaurant owner. I really don't understand the rave reviews for this restaurant. Are they paying people for reviews that's completely rhetorical. I walked in for the first time yesterday and nothing about this place was friendly not even the waitress. As soon as we interacted with the waitress we knew what kind of service it was going to be. We would have left but my partner was hungry. He got the steak and eggs. He said the steaks was alright the so-called hash browns if you could even call them that we're not but the pancakes were actually good everything else was less than mid. The coffee was gross and had a weird taste to it. I didn't end up drinking it the water was sus, I was afraid to drink it. I got the tator tots I mean you can't mess up Frozen tots right. Anyway my partner ate some I refuse to eat at a place that serves crappy Service. The waitress was not attentive and when she asked my partner if he wanted more coffee he said yes but then she never brought him more coffee. The waitress did serve plenty of attitude though if that counts for anything that matters. She was friendly to other customers while stone faced with us. This place gives Yanna's cringe vibes without the smell. I even saw a couple of waitress that used to work there. I have divested my dollar from that place for the same reasons. As a Colorado Native this was my first and last time at this outdated hole in the wall. Everything is a template of the other nothing special nothing new all mid-level food and service quality. But hey on a good note if you don't care what you put in your body and you want to feel like crap after you eat the food, go to hits...
Read moreFood was average… service was not. Shame on the manager. Symptoms of overstress in the workers. A faceless set of angry arms seen in the back doorway shaking visibly at a cowed and scared looking teenage girl. One server sniffing and hand wiping wiping back allergies, tears, I dunno, barehanded anyway, touching all the items on the table while cleaning.
I order an Everybodies Favorite Omelette with pancakes, a coffee, and a to go box so I can share my food with my dog in the car (clearly noted to the server). I ask for the tiniest drop of gravy to try it, I make it very clear I don’t want a full side.
Food arrives, pancakes are mushy but fine, scramble is decent enough, cooked well but a little more char than I like. I eat a couple bites to try it, and I load my to go box to give my best friend a tasty breakfast, walk out the door, and a second server says “goodbye”, I say to her loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear “oh I’m just going to my car, I’ll be back”. Well of course I come back 2 minutes later and my brand new, barely touched food is gone, thrown away.
Well they remake it, takes about 14 minutes, and I get my food back… it’s larger than before, but the scramble more burnt, and the pancakes more mushy… I eat it. Why not.
Check comes back, no discount for throwing away my food in the middle of the meal, and they charged me for the gravy, which I specifically asked not for a full side order. I bring this to their attention, and they bring it to the boss, he claims “he made it right”.
I would avoid this business if you want workers to serve you that are treated well enough to not make huge mistakes, or if you want food better than your...
