I searched this place out in an effort to find a good mom and pop store for men's dress wear. I arrived with the hopes of finding a new suit coat. The owner appeared after a minute, and I explained what I wanted. He quickly stated that he has kept very little inventory since the pandemic and that I should try JCPenny. I protested and explained that I sought a little more quality and did not want to use a department store. So I tried some rentals on for size and we looked in the catalog but didn’t find the right match for the pants. He then suggested that I try this tan suit coat on, also a rental. He had fair knowledge about how that color would contrast well with the dark pants.

Now we come to the best part. He stated confidently that this was a $600 rental quality suit coat that had been worn 12 times and that he could let it go for $200. I noticed a couple of little frays in the fabric but ok it’s used. He continued the smooth talk about the quality offering to have me feel the coat as if that was supposed to indicate something to someone not in the clothing field. He went off a couple of times to take some calls, so I figured I would look up the brand and then ask him to produce some receipts or some type of information that would prove that this in fact was a $600 suit if sold retail. I don’t care if he paid less for it wholesale. It was by Allure Men, and after a brief look on the internet, the products seemed to be in the $250 to $300 range, so no luck there, but I was still willing to give the owner the benefit of the doubt.

When he came back out, I expressed my interest in it and asked about receipts. It was not a surprise to me when his demeanor changed quickly as he stated that he had no paperwork on this suit coat. I asked if he would at least show me what a new one in the same line goes for in a catalog. He refused and claimed that his wife handles the paperwork at his house. I began to make my exit as he proceeded to gaslight me, which is why he earned this review. He started to attack my character for questioning him, stating how dare I suggest that he was dishonest, further claiming that he has never lied in his life. He doubled down on what a great deal he was offering me and that he could sell this coat for $400 any day of the week. This type of manipulation cannot be tolerated. I calmly pointed out that he could say that it was a $1,000 suit coat, but with no paperwork the statement is meaningless. I just needed some proof that the suit was in fact in the quality range that he claimed, nothing more. He then even suggested that if I kept pressing him that he would put the price up to $300, unknowing that he had already lost the sale. As I walked out the door, he continued to run his mouth. I went out with two of the groomsman in my wedding party looking for suits. We went to 3 suit shops total, with Rene’s being last. After pulling up the driveway and noticing the shop was being run out of his house, we were reluctant to go inside, but we did anyways. After not being greeted at the door, we proceeded to look at samples. We were greeted a few minutes later. I stuck my hand out to shake his hand and he stuck his hand out as he was walking away, giving me a dead fish handshake while walking back into his kitchen. We were displeased with his demeanor as well as his suit selection so we decided to leave. As we were leaving, he hastily ran outside to save face. To get us back in the door, he told us that he had a tan suit that nobody else in the country had. We were intrigued and walked back in. He then proceeded to show us the exclusive suit in a catalog. We instantly recognized the page from the catalog and expressed that we had already seen that suit at the first shop we visited. He continued to double down on his lie in hopes to convince us it was a different suit. I pulled up a picture of the same suit on the same page of the same catalog and showed him. He then tripled down on this same lie. We asked about deals for the seven person wedding party and he said that he had none. He then began to slander the competition of the first shop we visited which rented that same “exclusive” suit for $55 cheaper. We left just as reluctantly as we walked in. My son and I went to this place specifically to support a local business. We found him to be very forward in a pressing salesman way - there was constant chatter about his competitors prices, how he has done this for generations, pointing out a receipt from 2016 to show how good his prices are and told my son he had to specifically go to a larger size due to his frame (twice), along with giving my son business cards to hand out to his friends. We did find some of the options that were in his "display" room to be a bit tattered, however, trying again to support a small business, my son did find a suit he liked. This was on a Thursday. Fast forward only 4 days, my son and his group of friends going to prom have decided to wear matching suits. I called Tuesday morning to cancel, he was curt and told me he didn't have him in his records. I told him he had spelled my sons name wrong on receipt (we corrected him when we were there but he kept calling him the wrong name) and he would find it and cancel. The conversation changed when I asked about the $20 deposit - he explained it was for his time, all the work he put into ordering, his experience and personal care he took with my son (the large frame comment must have been a bonus...). How much work could he have done in 3 days on a suit not needed for 2 more months? None.
