ALDI — Local services in Lexington

Good food at great prices but disappointing customer service on our visit today. We used Google Pay as our payment type but the card reader asked for a PIN. A primary feature of tap-to-pay service is not having to use a PIN. The female cashier was completely unhelpful when we weren't able to get the card reader to cooperate. My husband asked her if there was a manager who might know how to resolve the Google Pay issue. She nodded her head backwards and said a cashier behind her was the manager. But she made absolutely no effort to try to get his attention or turn around and ask him a question. She sat there stoicily, on her little stool, while others were waiting in line behind us. Didn't say a single word to us as we were trying to figure out about payment. We ended up having to use an alternate card to physically pay on the card reader. When our receipt printed she handed it to us without so much as a "get lost." I worked in a grocery store for 4 years and I know that's not acceptable customer service. Such a disappointing experience for us. It's not our fault their card readers, though configured for "tap" payment, aren't set up correctly...

Aldi is a great value grocery store. The prices are among the lowest around as a standard price. Their specials can't really be beat. We only buy their fresh fish and Lamb so I don't have a comparison for the price of Pork or Beef.

Aldi is ownd by a German company so they get a lot of special buys for European chocolates and holiday foods. If those are something of interest to you, definitely check it out.

The parent company of Aldi also owns Trader Joes. The inventory is not the same. Aldi stores in the USA are not the same as those we visited in Europe. Great small grocery store to find products that are not common or brand named, this in turn result in cheaper prices for your groceries. Employees are very friendly and helpful in locating your items. Overall cleanliness is ok but does not take away from being able to shop here. The aisles, however are small but it’s never busy.

Measure have been placed to ensure you are shopping safely during the pandemic. Employees are wearing mask, 6 feet distance marked on the floors and even one way directions on aisles to prevent exposure (although I’ve notice that no one really follows the arrows...
