Let me say this right up front, Critchfield Meats is crazy expensive! OMG!!! Every bit of protein in that place is double what you would pay elsewhere! Now you're probably wondering why I gave them such a great rating? It's because of their variety of meat and seafood products. If you need goat meat for Caribbean dishes like Curried or Peanut Goat, Critchfield has bags of frozen goat meat ready to be thawed and thrown into a pot, and they have actual frozen goat quarters for people who prefer to butcher their goat meat to their preference. Rabbit? Got it! Octopus? Got it! Bison, Ostrich, sweet breads? Got it! Got it! Got it! If it flys Critchfield's got it! If it swims they got it! They have an impressive variety of meats, fowl, and seafood. I bet you they sell turtle meat. Next time I'll ask them. If a recipe calls for an out of the ordinary protein and you don't feel like calling or driving all over town trying to find it (and you don't mind over paying for it by a lot!) then I would head on over to Critchfield's and call it a day. Don't worry about the price. If you have to have it you have to have it! What other choice do you have? Especially if it's extremely uncommon! We know how hard it is to find exotic forms of protein, and who in the hell wants to take the chance of ordering something like that on line? We may as well pay Critchfield that extra $10 bucks. Everything in there cost way more than anywhere else, but if they're the only folks that carries what your looking for what is your alternative? They have us by the balls! Critchfield's prices are what they are because of the high overhead cost. They just moved into a new location, and it looks like they have more employees on the payroll than they need. They have to pay those guys a living wage. So we have to pay Critchfield's outrageously expensive prices. They got us all by the balls. But...
Read moreMy husband and I were so excited to go in and check out the critchfield meats location since we haven't seen it since it moved from the zandel location. Our daughter and my mom even went with us to see what all they had. There were so many things to shop for like seasonings, meats, and even produce that's locally grown. But we were very disappointed in the meat we purchased. We came in on saturday may 31st after I got off work with my mother, daughter and husband. My husband wanted to get a pork loin or pork butt to smoke in the smoker for pulled pork. He purchases the pork butt, and we go home and he gets ready to season it and get it ready to cook. As soon as he opens it, our entire house smells like rotted meat. I thought at first that it's the eggs we had got from the neighbor because maybe they're just old. So I threw those out and then I thought the smell was gone. Well, then my husband cooks the meat a little bit and then gets ready to wrap it in the paper after so many hours and the smell is still there. When I look at the package from the meat, it showed that the meat had already expired two days before we even purchased it. The meat expired on the 29th, and we purchased it on 31st of May. How can a butcher shop that's known for its meats sell meat to their customers that are 2 days past the sale date? My husband didn't think to check the date because he thought it was gonna be good within a day or two of use, but that wasn't the case. We are now leary of buying meat here and will just stick to closer locations to our home. Workers did seem...
Read moreI was honestly incredibly sad to see save-a-lot leave because we used it as a convenience store when we forgot dinner items, etc. I went into Critchfield meats for the first time last night since they moved into the location, and it definitely meets all of our old needs while actually having awesome quality meat. So excited that they still have some fresh produce and a little bit of everything else other than just their awesome meat selection.
Update: I just want to say how appreciative my family and I are of critchfield meats. Our 11 year old dog passed away about a month ago. During her last week, my husband went to the meat counter and explained that our dog had received a terminal diagnosis and we were trying to spoil her with steak during the time we had left with her (~1 week). They gave us some choice end cuts from several steaks for minimal cost. It meant so much to me. I had her from a puppy and she was my world. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring. We live around the corner from critchfield meats, so we’ve always tried to shop there when possible, but i can’t say enough good things about this...
