The Container Store — Local services in Livingston

Before Christmas I submitted a very negative review of the Container Store in Livingston, NJ. Today the associates there were so helpful that I decided that while I am still leaving my negative post up under this update I wanted to give them a great review which they truly deserve for assisting me today.

I got to the store about fifteen minutes before closing as I was at an event nearby and it ran later than I had hoped to enable me to get to the store earlier. I came in and knew exactly what I was looking for and an associate was very kind and helped me find the items. In fact, it turned out that what I had wanted had recently been moved to another aisle and another associate also assisted in getting me what I wanted. I was out of the store in no time and they were not at all bothered by my late arrival. I truly wish there was a store closer to me as there is none within a half an hour drive which is why I took advantage of my being in the area. Thank you Livingston NJ associates!

I placed an order online. I received notification that it was ready to be picked up yesterday. I just "picked up" my order only to find that a number of items were not in the bags. I had to wait over 15 minutes for my other items. Unfortunately they did not pull them from the store inventory when I placed the order as they were waiting for some items to come in on a shipment and i ended up not receiving all...

As a company whose very brand is built on the promise of bringing order to chaos, one might reasonably expect The Container Store to at least keep track of its own appointments. I scheduled a virtual consultation for 10:30 AM and was informed I would receive an email link two hours prior. At 10:15—with no link in sight—I called the store. Four attempts later, someone finally answered and suggested I check my spam folder. I had already done so. They then said they would “call me back in two minutes” after checking something. That was over 30 minutes ago. The appointment time has now come and gone, and I remain without a link and uncontacted.

The irony of a company specializing in organization being thoroughly disorganized is not lost on me. If they can’t coordinate a simple consultation, I hesitate to entrust them with the far more nuanced task of organizing my closet with custom furniture. I came to this container store to design my elfa closet, since they have one of the bigger closet displays in the area. The container store employees will help you design your space as long as you come in with your measurements (but they also have an in home measuring service). Marilyn designed the perfect closet for me. After removing the doors from my closet, I realized I could use longer shelving, something Marilyn had previously recommended. I called to let them know I wanted to alter the design slightly and spoke with Marilyn directly. She kindly walked me through my options, and in a few minutes, she came up with the perfect solution.
