Terrible experience selling here and poor experiences shopping. Their policies for buying clothes are unclear and the text they send saying they have processed your items is useless. It should at least say whether they've decided to buy or have rejected them, and that there is a time limit to make a decision on whether you'd like to accept their insulting offer. Manager was very rude and argumentative; she finally admitted they had "made a mistake" and donated my clothes! I asked her to mail me my $4 (for 2 barely-worn items I'd paid $100 for only months ago), but realizing she said "donated," now believe I won't even see that. The few times I've shopped here (never again) the clerks have typically not even said hello. Just awful.
UPDATE March 9, 2018 - I can't see way to respond to the retailer's response, so here it mine to what Clothes Mentor said below.
Wow! You were not only insulting in person, but here, too. What a poor business practice.
I called after your useless text saying the items had been "processed" to see what that meant. When the woman told me the offer - which was shockingly low - I said I wanted time to think. She said that was fine. So imagine my confusion (and yes anger) when I came in three days later to find you had donated my items. And while you have my phone number, you never tried to contact me to make things right or even offer me the $4 -- even after this review was posted. In my view, you essentially stole the items from me.
You should train your staff better, and again - include basic details in your text like: "Good news, we've decided to buy your items!" Or, "Sorry, we can't use them at this time." With a reminder of the time limit.
Please look at your reviews. I am not alone in my complaints. Instead of criticizing the critics, change your policies, treat your customers with respect, respond kindly and professionally to their concerns. EARN some great reviews!
I'm precisely your demographic: a well-paid professional woman who chooses to shop second hand as a green-living lifestyle choice - not because I can't afford new clothes. I'm also a long-time, well-known, respected resident. Trust me when I say I've told all my acquaintances not to shop at Clothes Mentor. Is this really...
Read moreI wouldnât sell to Clothes Mentor again after a pretty disappointing experience. I brought in two bags of gently used clothes, shoes, and bagsâmostly from prestige brands, with original prices ranging from $70 to $300. They bought about 10 items and offered me around $50. I accepted without thinking much, but when I looked at what they didnât take, I realized they had picked out all the high-priced stuff and still only paid me a around 5% of the original value.
They also marked random âimperfectionsâ on some itemsâlike wrinkles on shoes. I mean, if a pair of shoes was worn even once, of course thereâd be some creasing. For some clothes they returned, I honestly couldnât even spot any flaws near the stickers.
I didnât want to argue, so I took the rest to the nearby Platoâs Closet (fyi, they only take teenagersâ styles and active wear and Iâm a young adult and most of my clothes are pretty on-trend/teen style). They accepted everything except a long dress and gave me about $100! When I came back a few weeks later to sell more to Platoâs, I noticed that most of my items were already goneâsuper fast turnover!
To be fair, my first experience at Clothes Mentor wasnât badâthey paid around 10% of the original price, which I thought was a fair price - left them with some profit margin and not like stealing from me. But based on the big sales emails Iâve been getting lately, it seems like theyâre dealing with major overstock. That might explain why the payouts feel so low now. Until theyâre offering fairer prices again, Iâll be taking my...
Read moreToday I visited this store for the first time. I love to shop resale both for myself and for great items that I can sell on Ebay I also sell to several area resale stores. I have been selling on Ebay for quite some time and consider myself to be an expert in brands and styles. So imagine my surprise when I took a buy into this store with designer items and labels such as talbots, Ann Taylor, Chicos and designer items like Adriano Goldsmeid, all current labels. I did not expect them to buy all of my items most resale stores do not buy everything but I did expect them to buy at least a basket full as I had many items that are great labels in great condition. Honestly I was absolutely shocked when they called me up and stated that they were passing on everything because it was damaged or old. So I thought I will come home and just re-look everything just to make sure. I see some items were a bit over two years and a few had stains I had missed, understandable. What I do not understand is the items that were in great condition with current labels even some brand new with the tags! Basically I have walked away feeling like they looked at me and judged me for some unknown reason and decided we are not taking any of this ladies clothes. I almost think they thought I was a thief or something because I thrift at Goodwill and find amazing items buy them at half price and then resell them to make money. In short it was a very uncomfortable experience and I will never return to this store to...
