Last week my 89yo mother was having trouble with her vehicle. She lives in Los Alamos NM, a town lacking adequate/qualified repairs especially for foreign cars. She had warning lights having to do with the oil system and the closest service was over 40 miles away. She made an appointment with her service center a few days away but did not want to do something to destroy her engine.
Knowing it was oil related, she found her way into the Los Alamos, NM Oâreillyâs. She received great service and assistance from a young male employee that engaged, actively listened, inspected her vehicle and oil level, and proceeded to help her and make her comfortable. Perceiving her concern and fears about the situation, the employee finished the transaction by offering to follow her home to make sure the car made it to her home. He tailed her all the way to her residence, made sure she made it to her driveway and returned to the store.
I couldnât be more touched and appreciative. I live 15 hours away and felt helpless that I couldnât be present. This employee went way above and beyond the definition of excellent service to the level of heroic. It may not seem a big deal but so many other things could have happened. She didnât end up on the side of a dangerous highway in a high crime zone. I wish I knew the manâs name. Iâm forever forward an OâReillyâs customer.
Many only wish to have employees that do the right thing when nobody is watching. Few can contemplate hiring a worker who makes the community a better safer place for its most venerable members while representing their business. Most business owners wouldnât support or contemplate allowing an act that costs the business more than the revenue gained. Big kudos to management/ownership who would create a work environment that allows this level of...
Read moreI genuinely used to love this store and the employees for all of my auto parts and service needs, and it has absolutely been my preferred location for the last four years or so while I fix and maintain older vehicles. However, in recent months I have never felt more unwelcome as a customer. There's a bit of a culture of giving customers a "hard time" with jokes, which is fine, but some employees now take it too far without actually being helpful.
In my last visit, while replacing a crank case breather assembly, I had to make a few separate small purchases while I was confirming hose diameter and clamp sizes, and then again for an elbow fitting when I saw that my installation put pressure on the resonator when the hood closed. In this process, I received multiple unkind comments about my personal finance management, several threats to refuse service to me "to protect my wallet", and it was made clear to me that my entering the store three times within an hour or so was an undue burden on the employee, with many statements that I was clearly inept at this fix for having to keep returning and would be further unwelcome from doing so. This is despite being told in somewhat vulgar and in no uncertain terms that there was zero concern for what I did with the equipment upon purchase. To be clear, I do not feel that I'm in danger of bankrupting myself with the purchase of a three dollar pack of hose clamps.
Many of my recent visits and interactions with this employee have felt equally hostile, and I feel that I now have to find a new parts store...
