Early on, I had some bad experiences with this place, but I so desperately wanted a good coffee place in town that I continued to try them out. I'm glad that I did because I haven't had any issues recently, and I can now recommend this place. I like that they make their drinks from better coffee and their drinks are more coffee-forward than sugary. I do wish they would rotate their batch brew more; every time I have asked it has been the Condor brew and I wish they would mix it up a little, or have two batch brews on offer so that I could get a lighter roast. But even though their main batch brew isn't my preference, I can tell that it's a lot better than the standard coffee at Starbucks and such.
I also wish I could rate the coffee and food separately, because I'm not the biggest fan of the food they offer. I've tried several of their burritos, scones, muffins, etc. The food I've gotten here has never been bad, but it's never really been anything special either. However, that's OK with me because I don't come here for the food. I'm happy to get a pastry or bagel from one of the nearby locations and get my coffee from W&M.
The onsite service is excellent. However, I do think they should have someone managing their online presence that won't answer honest but negative feedback with unfounded allegations of bullying and harassment. I posted about one of my bad experiences on social media because I figured they'd jump at the chance to offer to make it right in a public forum, but some of the responses I got from their official page were really surprising.
Regardless, I still wish this place success because I appreciate having the extra option in...
Read moreMy wife and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Wolf and Mermaid cafe. It’s a charming spot with great coffee and delicious food options. We tried the burritos and muffins, which were both excellent, and also recommend the Green Chile Cheese Croissant and the Pain au Chocolat. Most of all though, we were really touched by how kind the staff was!
We visited the Los Alamos History Museum and stopped here for a bite. We were staying in Santa Fe and had taken an Uber to get here and were hoping to Uber back. We didn’t know that there weren’t any Uber/Lyft drivers in the area and it being Labor Day, there was no public transport available either. We were at a loss and didn’t know anyone in the area so my wife asked the staff for help and they were so gracious!
Want to especially thank Eliza - she looked into what was available, suggested multiple options, checked on us every few minutes while we were trying to find a taxi service (that was open and had a driver who could come pick us up) and even offered that her husband would drive us all the way to Santa Fe if we couldn’t find another option! We were so grateful and deeply touched by the kindness she showed to us complete strangers. When we finally got a taxi, she even packed a couple croissants for us as it was my birthday :)
Thank you Eliza! We won’t forget your kindness - it actually restored our faith in humanity a little bit :)
All in all - lovely folks, great cafe - highly...
Read moreThe Santa Fe location is a GEM. The warm welcome that I receive from the luminous barista, Max, is worth the price of admission! I only frequent establishments where the staff seems truly happy to be there, because staff contentment considerably influences ambiance. I also appreciate how the soft, rhythmic music they play is conducive to conversation.
The outdoor seating area is so charming that I haven't sat indoors yet. There are sunny and shaded areas and lots of planting afoot to make it really lush for the warmer months. There's a pet grooming business next door, and I enjoyed observing customers joyfully greeting their spiffed-up pets.
On the two occasions I've been here, I was very pleased with my choices--a mint and coconut milk latte, and an iced hibiscus tea. Coconut milk is my best non-dairy choice and is rarely available in other cafes. Hibiscus is packed with vitamin C and known to promote heart health. I hope the cafe commits to reducing single-use plastic waste. In the future, I'll see if the management is amenable to letting me bring my own cup.
I haven't eaten here yet, but I gave it five stars because my companion raves about the blueberry muffins. I'm excited to try their gluten-free options on my next visit.
This downtown business actually has its own parking! Those spots may be hard to come by in the very near future, but for now, it's...
