I can't say this is a 5 star facility but please go find one. You can alway pick on something if you look hard enough. I have to say this is at least a 4.5 star. If there is an option for 4.5 stars, I will give it. I go there 5 times a week about 2 hours each time. I think my evaluation is fair and objective.
2)5* maintenance guy- There is a maintenance guy.I must have approached him at least 5 times about the rowing machine was not working. The treadmill was not working. The hand dryer was not working. The Stair Master was not working. Even after so many times he wasn't annoyed. He even gave me an update about the pin bearing for the rowing machine is coming next week. He said if I see any more maintenance issues, just let him know. He has a great attitude. He knows his stuff. He worked hard. He is in maintenance but I saw him picking up dirty towels in the gym. He emptied the towels in the men's locker room. He was helpful. Granted he can't stock every spare part in the gym. It is not possible but he tried hard and deserved a lot of credit. With so many machines in the gym, it is hard to get everything done in 24 hours, unless you are willing to pay $100.00 a month a month ! I
3)5* staff- I complained about no soap to a staff. He said no problem. He will take care of it. I left and didn't check but I am sure he did.
4)5* front desk staff. I am a very forgetful person. One time I lost my wallet. Thankfully someone turned it in. I spoke to Angel. He said he someone turned it in and he locked my wallet in a safe for me. What a guy. I didn't lose a single dollar. I was so happy.
Common complains
2)Towels are everywhere in the men's room instead of the huge laundry bucket. There are no mothers in the gym. You have to pick up the towels and put it in the laundry bin where they supposed to go.
The workout machines are dirty. There were those sweaters. ( not the kind you wear ) but they sweat profusely while working out. When he jogs next to me, I feel like I am taking a sweat shower from this guy. Anyway, the people didn't wipe down the sweat after a workout. The machines , particularly the tread mills and Stair Masters are full of drops of their sweat. The people who use the machine should have wiped them off. Then they left their used paper towels, bottle water etc
Machines not working- I don't know how many times I saw people dropped the weights and perhaps unintentionallly 'abused' the machines. If you don't know how to use it, read the diagram or ask a staff.
In summary, the staff has great attitude. They are short handed granted. The paper towels run out in the gym or the cleaner. The place can be dirty. With so many people using the gym every day it is hard to clean the place clean. Also, you also have to look at ourselves. We are the ones who made the staff job difficult. Until we all change our behavior, shows some courtesy, be a little kinder to the ones sharing your space, clean up after ourselves , and show respect to the staff, this place will always be a 1 star gym because you are the one who made it 1 star. No matter how hard the staff tries, it won't be a 5 star because of you. Just because you pay $40 or $42 doesn't mean 24 Hours Fitness needs to hire a servant to go pick up your towels and clean up the mess that you created in the locker's room. Tell the staff nicely. If you think our gyms sucks, then go to Malaysia , Hong Kong, or Mexico and you will rate this gym as the 5 * for a measly...
Read moreThis gym continues to disappoint with the level of cleanliness and restocking of supplies to having functional gym equipment to the employees providing lip service.
From the moment you enter to go up the stairs, the stairs have a black gummy substance all over them. Usually, there are fragments of toilet paper, fuzz, band-aids, etc. on the stairwell.
The pool area serves as a sausage fest and a bro commercial for a Hanes commercial as most of the guys are using the steam and sauna area in their underwear. The pool area is dingy and dirty. There are paper towel trash, empty water bottles, and dirty band aids throughout the area. The hallway leading back to the locker rooms is dirty and has the same identifiable trash that will remain for over a week.
The locker rooms are beyond gross. There is toilet paper all over the floor; the showers are usually dirty with people's hair and conditioner stuck to the walls. There have been days at a time where the soap dispensers in the shower stalls will be empty. I have notified the front desk. I was assured it would be addressed. A day later, there was still no soap in the same stall. The toilets have toilet paper all over the floor, the toilets have been known to have fecal matter around the bowl. The door leading from the locker rooms to the swim area has a broken handle.
There has been non-functional equipment upstairs. I notified the front desk so they could make a sign. I returned two days later...no sign. I again notified the front desk. One of the newer, younger female employees gave me attitude and told me that people rip off the signs. (She has seemed to always have an answer, but never seems to really want to do any actual work.) I am not going to deny that this is a possibility, but I have a hard time believing it that the case every time. Free weights are difficult to come by and never re-racked.
The sanitizer was out as well as paper towels near the treadmills and ellipticals. I told the front desk. For the entirety of my workout, no one ever came to restock, and I used the equipment for over an hour. To add, there were three people at the front desk. Sometimes the AC will be out, and it makes it difficult to workout during the summer months. There are many paper towels are left in the cup holders. The equipment is dirty. See pictures for reference. It is from a treadmill.
The front desk area is also dirty. There is dust all over the top of the desk.
Bottom line, there's a saying that "A closed mouth doesn't get fed." This is true, but I have tried over and over again to address concerns with this facility only to be met with lip service and my mouth has not been fed. The front desk employees like to talk to the customers and with each other. They don't ever want to clean. Forget it if there is an issue with the female locker room and there is not a female working. I've gone all different hours in hopes for a different experience. It's the same attitude and the same results. NOTHING is changing.
It's highly annoying. I bring my own wipes and sanitizer after having a skin infection to which I had to seek medical attention.
I am hoping that since there is a new manager, some major changes will occur. I spoke with Jason prior to this review with the assurance of change. I waited all summer. I don't see much change. Starting this summer, I began paying for a second member to another gym because of the issues with 24 hour.
I keep hoping that 24 hour fitness will improve or else I am out when my membership expires. I feel defeated because I think everything I have concerns that are not being addressed. I feel like the staff wouldn't care if I leave because I point out issues in hopes...
Read moreI'm still an active member at 24 Hour Fitness and plan to continue using other locations, but I've made the decision to stop going to the Woodland Hills club because I no longer feel comfortable there, primarily due to one of the managers, James.
My girlfriend first stopped attending the Mission Hills location after repeated, unwanted attention from James during her visits. She told me that he seemed to have used her name from the check-in process to locate her on social media, which made her feel extremely uneasy. Even though she made it clear she was in a relationship, the behavior didn't stop. Now that James is working at the Woodland Hills location, she no longer feels safe going there, and honestly, I don't either.
I've personally overheard James making comments about other employees and discussing their personal relationships with people who work under them. In my opinion, that kind of behavior from someone in management is not only unprofessional, it's a big part of why some of these clubs feel unsafe. I've also heard James talk about a manager at the Sherman Oaks location who was allegedly terminated after sending explicit photos to a staff member. I later heard a similar story from someone else I trust, which really made me question how situations like that are being handled behind the scenes.
These issues don't stop with management. At Sherman Oaks, I saw a man shoulder-check a woman on the gym floor. I've heard other members talk about his behavior and say that he's been banned from other gyms in the past. I've also noticed individuals at multiple locations who appear to be struggling with mental health or homelessness, and who have made employees and members uncomfortable through harassment or erratic behavior.
Also, I heard about a stabbing that took place recently at the North Hollywood location. If that incident happened the way it's been described, it's really concerning that there was no communication or acknowledgment from corporate about something that serious.
To be clear, I'm sharing my personal experience and what others have told me directly. These are concerns I have based on what I've seen and heard, and I believe it reflects larger problems with the way some of these clubs are being managed. I don't think situations like these would be so common if 24 Hour Fitness had stronger policies in place and did a better job selecting leadership. People like James, in my opinion, create environments where members and staff don't feel protected.
I plan to continue using other locations, but I'm speaking up because I think these are real problems that need to be addressed if 24 Hour Fitness wants to be a place where all members and employees feel safe...
