Went to see The Curl Doctor to finally get the big chop. I had 47 textures in my hair trying to hold on to length, and none of it worked unless I pressed my hair. So I kept pressing it, pressing my curl pattern out completely. Then I went to protective styles in efforts to grow my hair back down my back and it wouldn't get past a certain length. Also, I had developed a thin patch at my temple due to recent tragedy and stress. My hair stopped growing. The roots we're healthy but the ends were trash. The Curl Doctor was friendly and made me feel comfortable. They gave me a whole dissertation on curls and hair care. Much of the visit was about products which were ridiculously marked up (thus the docking of a half star), but I felt a world of possibilities letting go of the dead length. I struggled for weeks after until I figured out how to style my hair and it has been 6 months since my visit and I am proud to say my thin patch has completely regenerated, my hair has grown nearly 6 or 7 inches, my natural curls are phenomenal, and even the area of the back of my crown that stopped growing over 10 years ago has completely regenerated. I'll add that I have almost no split ends, as well. I've managed to avoid direct heat (except for a blowdryer to set my shower-curled hair, and I feel better about my hair, overall. Could anyone have chopped off my hair? Probably. But Shia creates an experience and understands what you will grow into, and I'm looking forward to visiting again, when needed. It's an expensive visit, but I haven't had to go to a salon in 6 months so it probably...
Read moreHorrible experience, guy butchered my hair and gave me a 70's shag. I asked for a trim and just to clean up the layers. Owner treated me condescendingly, insultingly, kept me waiting, didn't call back. I only pursued a refund (a lousy $100.) more on principle than a hundred dollars. My regular stylist was out of town and this is the only reason I went to this place, from the reviews online and their website I never would have believed it would turn into more money to get it to at least look presentable, and it's going to be months to grow out, and this owner just treated me in a way that if he were a professional, he would have six weeks ago given the refund and apologized. I'm not hard up for a hundred, but obviously they are. He says he's been doing hair for twenty years. Yeah, okay, and sometimes things go wrong like this stylist on this day on my hair. Own up to it and be a responsible, decent human being, or at least a good business man. Maybe they are usually good, they probably are. But know this for certain, I know for a fact that at least once they messed up big time. Worse than that is how he handled it. Why don't I go back to the place that messed up my hair and see if what little I have left they can "fix". Yeah, it'll be fixed, after it grows out for six months. So, if you go, know about this experience I had. If you want to make it out to be just an angry customer, you are right and you would be too. I never swear and this man with his high horse snobby attitude really got my...
Read moreI had high hopes for this place. It was clean and well-decorated. I have seen the photos and other people have had great results which is why I offer the 3 stars. I just wish that I had a better experience.
I am aware that I have heat damage; however, I have never permed my hair. I stopped flat ironing my hair for two years and then began sporadically flat ironing my hair last year before finally deciding to fully transition to curly. I decided to get highlights to help with the transition. It was the second time in my life that I ever attempted to get color in my hair. While getting the color, the other stylists were speaking ill of my hair (unprofessional) and the person coloring my hair kept telling me that I was not taking good care of my hair but did not offer any advice. She seemed new to the salon and did not seem like she knew much about curly hair. In fact, she put me under the dryer for over 30 minutes with high heat. I just started using my personal blow dryer for the first time in years and I only use it on the low, cool setting with my diffuser. After, it was semi-dry, she sent me on my way without styling. (I guess it is not a part of the cost.) She did suggest that I return to the salon for a deva cut because it was pointless to style my hair in the state that it was in. I won't...
