During this pandemic it's pretty hard to try and maintain a fun and exciting weekend life with a significant other or even a nice night out in the town for a fancy dinner, but i appreciate all the businesses trying their best to accommodate with what little we have. With that said Iroha absolutely knocks it out of the park! When I called they weren't taking reservations which is understandable, and honestly the wait sucked. Alot. But even after a 1.5-2 hour wait i can absolutely see why people do this.
Once seated we were immediately asked for drinks. We ordered a hot sake and a sapporo and some spicy edamame. Drinks came quick and we put in our final order. While enjoying the spicy edamame, which was absolutely delicious and spicy but just the right amount, we had some hot sake which was not too hot but just hot enough chug. The first dish up was the toro tuna and the baked mussels. I've had toro before and absolutely the best piece of fish I've ever had and to this day! It was so soft and buttery and melted on your tongue and i just felt like momentarily i was transported to the beach in the middle of the day with a soft breeze blowing on me while walking barefoot on the sand in all white hemp clothing. Now this was my first time trying the baked mussels, which were absolutely delicious and cheesy and for my first time trying will absolutely be ordering them everytime we go! Next up was this love roll with lobster and onion and it was sooo good. The baked crab hand roll was absolutely TOO DIE FORR! A must try for sure. Finally we finished off with the banana-rama with tempura ice cream, another first for me and I was very happy with all my choices. Not a bad pick in the bunch. ...
Read moreKudos to the gentleman who decided to take me out on a date here; this place is super charming and the ideal location for a date night.
The actual restaurant is hard to spot unless you know what you're looking for and the valet parking area is pretty small. BUT once you find this little nugget you will be happy you've done so. The outside is peppered with cute succulent plants and painting. The inside is equally as charming with a romantic inside with lights glistening across the ceiling. The wait for the bar area is a bit longer but it's worth it if you want the added experience of having the chef freshly slice sashimi in your face.
I arrived about 20 mins before my date and they graciously seated me without him (thank goodness) and I ordered the garlic spicy edamame. It was super tasty and more than enough for two people to share. For my main dish I had the Caterpillar Roll with sliced avocado on top of freshwater eel. It was super tasty! Loved every bite of it and when my date hated his meal he opted for this roll as well. It's pretty safe but extremely flavorful.
The price point is a bit pricey (about 18 bucks for the Caterpillar Roll) but the charm and ambiance really makes it worth it. Not to mention the food is really tasty. The service was spotty, our waitress was super nice but not very attentive but it could have been because it was a busy.
Although the guy who took me here never called me back (streets are cold), at least he introduced me to a gem! Would certainly come back to try their immense menu on another date, cause I'm not paying....does that sound mean...well a...
Read moreFantastic sushi place near coldwater and Ventura. Lots of metered parking and valet available. Top tier fish quality that can only be achieved by making daily early morning runs to the fish market. Sushi fiends will adore this place. They serve Tokyo style and pretty much any preparation you desire.
They have items on the menu for non fish lovers such a fuagra and wagu. While I thoroughly enjoyed the non fish offerings, the super stars are the fish and expert hands of the chefs that prepare it. There were too many 10/10 plates that its impossible to pick a favorite, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you miss the otoro (fatty blue fin) and the live uni (sea urchin) both were incredible. The Uni was delightfully sweet, and held up to being served sashimi style, each peice was easy to handle with chop sticks.
The otoro literally made me lose track of what I was saying to my buddy. A generous portion of perfectly marbled blue fin tuna belly that literally melted in my mouth into a symphony of delicate and nuanced flavors.
This isn't the cheapest place by any stretch of the imagination, but you absolutely get what you pay for. An absolute must try, come here and check them out, now,...
