I had never heard of this place, but my friend suggested we try it. I am going to cut to the chase. The food we had was so good. Just eat here. Let me say that again. The food was banging.
We ended up doing the tasting menu and went with the classic option. The food was absolutely delicious. There was not a single miss in anything we tried. For once, I felt like there was enough food for both of us, though I could have easily eaten more. I am someone who can inhale pasta, and I would have loved larger portions. So if you are not sure what to order and you want pasta, I definitely recommend the tasting menu. It is only enough for two people, though, so keep that in mind. I wish the serving sizes were a little bigger, but I also have a big appetite, so take that with a grain of salt.
I do not usually eat tiramisu, but theirs was really good. There is also an ice cream spot in the same plaza, so if you are not in the mood for tiramisu or other desserts, you can grab ice cream instead. I think there is an Erewhon nearby too.
Now for the part that could be a hit or miss depending on your vibe and hunger level. They do not take reservations. It is first come, first served. I do not necessarily mind that, but my friend and I are always running late, and she could not be seated until I arrived.
Another thing is that there was not much table seating available, so we had to sit at the bar. If you are someone who carries a large bag or just does not like bar seating, this might not be ideal unless you can snag a table. Even the tables themselves did not look that spacious. I will say the bar had hooks for handbags, which was nice, but if you have a big one, it will still be tricky.
My friend and I had gifts for each other, and finding a place to put them was tough. Our knees kept hitting them, or we had to set them on the floor. Sitting at the bar also meant we were pretty cramped, so we kept bumping into the people next to us. I had to keep apologizing, but thankfully everyone around us was really nice about it. The space between people is just tight, so if you are taller or have a broader build and do not like close contact, you might want to wait for a table or mentally prepare for tight quarters.
The lighting is another thing. It is very dark inside, to the point that people were pulling out their phones just to read the menu. You do not want to shine a bright light and interrupt someone’s dinner, but it was definitely hard to see.
If you are going on a first date, I actually think it is a great spot, especially if you are not feeling your most confident that day because the lighting is forgiving. But if you are going on a date with someone you already know or just meeting up with friends, be aware that it is dark and loud inside.
We went on a Friday, and the volume level was high. My friend and I had to lean in really close just to hear each other.
Now for the positives. The food was incredible. The staff was super friendly. The vibe and aesthetic were great. The only drawbacks were the seating, lighting, and noise level, which affect the overall dining experience.
Even with those small issues, I would absolutely go back again. Honestly, I might just order to-go next time because the food was really,...
Read moreI was pretty excited to check Uovo out, as it had been recommended by a genuine Italian friend of mine. Having dined there recently, I'm sad to report that it was pretty "meh" across the board. First off, they don't take reservations, which is fine. They operate like Sugar Fish, and once you're aware of this, you kind of know what you're getting into. They said there would be a wait somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes (ended up being about 35) which we'd anticipated. From the moment we sat down, however, the service was lackluster and rushed in every respect. It started off with me asking our main server (there are multiple servers who share the bar, it seems) for more information about one of the beers on the menu, to which she replied, "It's a beer." Duly noted, thanks. After that, we opted to order their tasting menu (one of the highlights of the dinner, as it allows you to try a number of their dishes, rather than committing to just one), but instead of a well paced meal, the cooks/servers ended up shoving plates in front of us before we'd even finished half of the dish we were working on. It felt like we were being rushed out the door the entire night, and this continued course after course. The food itself was totally fine, but for what we spent, "fine" was disappointing. Their big selling point is that they fly in their pasta daily from Italy, which is trendy and what not, but I expected it to be top notch and again, I didn't think it was any better than any of the classic Italian joints nearby on Ventura. The Tiramisu was the real letdown. I'm a huge fan of said dessert, and this one was one of the worst Tiramisus I've ever had. It was flavorless (also clearly pulled out of the fridge, having sat there for who knows how long) and the sponge cake was dry as can be. When I told our main server about this after she asked how everything was, her response was, "Oh. Okay." I wasn't expecting a free meal or anything, but figured she would at least say more than that... Oh well! Overall, I don't think Uovo is bad, it's just mediocre masquerading as high end, which is...

We decided to give Uovo a shot and glad we did. My husband and I ordered off the tasting menu which for us posed to be the best route.
We began with an appetizer, a yellowtail dish that was tasty. Then began our tour of pasta. They basically split pasta dishes in half and you and your food partner get the half portion to feast on. We ended with dessert.
We loved every dish and would've appreciated a different order. We would've liked to have ended our tour of pasta with the truffle sauce. It was delicious and left us wanting more. We ended with a pasta that had a little more pepper than I would've liked but it was still very tasty.
The dessert, a tiramisu was small and yummy did the job.
My husband ordered a wine, he said it was paired perfectly and the temperature was on point.
We waited about thirty minutes to sit at the bar. On a Sunday evening the wait time for a table was an hour to 1.5 hour long. To our surprise when we received the text that we were ready to be seated we got a table. The atmosphere is a little loud and the tables are so close together I can overhear all surrounding conversations. I'm a little nosy so it was hard for me to pay attention to my own business.
The staff was amazing, great personalities, very attentive.
Don't forget a headlamp. This place is beyond dark I could barely see the menu.
Overall we had a pleasant experience.
Not a place for small children. The tables are too close together
I believe Parking is 90...
