Have you ever noticed the Oakridge Estate that is near Devonshire and Reseda? It is right next door to Rydell Chevrolet and has a fascinating story. In 1937, architect Paul R. Williams and Barbara Stanwyck, then one of Hollywood's highest paid actresses, collaborated to build a 6000 square foot Irish farmhouse on a hilltop in Northridge, California. The views were of the entire San Fernando Valley and Marwyck Ranch, her 130 acre Thoroughbred Farm, co-owned with Zeppo and Marion Marx. Jack Oakie purchased the house in 1941. It remained the Oakie family home for over six decades. Jack Oakie renamed the property Oakridge. The City of Los Angeles acquired the property in 2009. Today, the Friends of Oakridge offer tours of the property to raise funds for its restoration. https://www.theoakridgeestate.org

A new park to The Big Valley on the old Barbara Stanwyck property also known as the oakie estate. Thanks for saving this one. Hopefully one day the house will be restored. By the way no bathrooms but there are drinking fountains for people and pets.

Great small park! Plenty of parking, handicap too! Walking train, nature, alot of seating areas. Very easy walk around the park. Has an awesome section for kids... had a tractor, a horse, logs and some climbing fun. There are NO swing or slides but my kid didnt seem to mind and had fun anyways. There are a lot of benches, tables to eat and even a little table for kids. There are water foundations water bottle fillers and doggy fountain. It is mostly empty, there was only one person walking when I went. There are no restrooms so make sure to pee before. I love this park, it great! You can walk and have fun with kids! Closest nice...

What a shame the property and immediate area are so overdeveloped. Dont get me wrong, i LOVE many of the shops and restaurants around here, i just think there's too many housing developments, and maybe that car dealership could have been located elsewhere so Oakridge and the property next door could be as they used to. Plus I guessnthe stables and racetrack are gone from here, which is a shame.

Still, we are very fortunate that this beautiful mansion and grounds still exist at all! It's just breathtakingly beautiful! They really knew how to build 'em...
