Kulak's Woodshed — Local services in Los Angeles

Funky hole-in-the-wall venue ideal for singer-songwriters and/or recording artists of the small combo/ensemble variety to hone their performing chops. The place on the inside, decor wise, is a seemingly random pot pourri of flotsam & jetsam, but here's the clincher: Kulak's films the performances - they have what I'm pretty sure is a multi-cam setup - with one of the cams being on an overhead steady-cam track. I believe the filming is streamed to the internet. When you watch the performance as being filmed in real time on one of the monitors there, the venue's decorative backdrop seems much better and totally different than in person! It's in that context that you realize the way Kulak's is designed, decor wise, makes perfect sense in that...

Kulak's Woodshed is such a unique venue. Their Monday night open mics are warm, welcoming, and wonderful. Singer-songwriters perform originals and covers on piano and guitar. The all-volunteer tech staff do an amazing job getting you set-up. The multi-camera video they shoot (and email), complete with cross-fades, gives you an opportunity to not only have footage of your performance, but also well-mixed live sound. Thank you so much Paul Kulak for creating and sustaining this labor of love for so many decades and so many artists, even though I have just discovered it.
