This review is dedicated to Mrs Twyla who teaches the evening esthetics class. This woman should be banned from teaching. She talks to the students in a very condescending way and has zero patience when teaching. She uses phrases like "I'm only going to say this once so write it down or record it". If she's asked a question and doesn't feel like answering it she'll dismiss the question and say "I'm not gonna answer that because you should know the answer" then jokingly in a passive aggressive way tells you to leave her class and points at the door. There's a lot of favoritism going on in her class and those students have their own little cliques, it's like high school all over again because those are her little puppets reporting back to her. Same students that mock her ways of speaking in class (go figure).

This woman also claims she's a registered RN and she mentions it every chance she gets. I haven't been able to find any credentials under her name and her whole aggressive demeanor and her misspelled medical terminology she writes on the board tells me she has no medical background because that attitude would never fly in healthcare. When you walk into class you never know if she's gonna be in a good mood or lashing out at everyone. She seems to be bipolar and you can't have a conversation with her because she gets defensive and aggressive immediately. This is the reason students are performing facials without being competent because they're scared to say no to her. She literally forces you to do them even if you tell her you don't know how to do it.

I did report her bully like attitude to Cindy the director and she told me she stands by Mrs Twyla 100% and that whatever she's doing is working because she has a high passing grade with the board test. The whole school is toxic from students, instructors to directors looking the other way when you report issues. Needless to say Twyla bashes administration all day long and the day instructors during class. She's unethical and unprofessional.

The school is super outdated, dirty and most equipment is broken and unsafe to use. If you're a client booking services STOP just don't! Many students are winging it and don't know what their doing to you.

It was emotionally draining attending that school. In the end Cindy expelled me because I refused to perform a facial on a client in which Twyla didn't train me to do. I told Cindy esthetics is a serious thing and I didn't want to cause harm to the client so I did refuse the assignment. She didn't care, she used the excuse I was being disruptive in class to kick me out. Now I'm seeking legal counsel against the school for not adhering to their own anti bullying policies and breach of contract. Be aware that if you enroll at this school they will ignore all complaints, money is all they care about; not a fair and enjoyable education. Retaliation is huge...

I was a student here at Newberry, recently last week I completed the evening esthetics course with instructor Mrs. Twyla. If you're looking to get a career in esthetics and learn from someone who cares and knows what they're doing I would highly recommend Mrs. Twyla's evening class. She is a great instructor, she tells you exactly what stateboard looks for and in a way that sticks. She's a great hands on mentor as well! Mrs. Twyla is very supportive and pushes you to do your best, she never pushes you to do something you are not capable of. I truly feel prepared to take the stateboard exam and start my career after taking her class. Thank you mrs Twyla for everything!

Also I want to say thank you to all the staff especially Ms. Desiree and Ms. Cindy, while in school I went through a very risky pregnancy and they worked with me along with mrs. Twyla to complete my course. They were always so supportive and encouraging, always in my corner. I will forever be grateful for this school for encouraging me to complete this course even during such a hard time. Newberry is the perfect place for you if you are planning on pursuing a career in the beauty industry. I was lucky enough to be placed in Ms. Twyla’s evening class. Ms. Twyla is an incredible instructor she is passionate about the art of esthetics and makes sure her students are prepared and comfortable before performing any services. Ms.Twyla pushes you to become the best esthetician you could be by giving you constructive criticism and making sure you learn exactly what will be on state board. It’s been an honor to work alongside Ms. Twyla. She pushed me and believed in me when I needed it most. I will keep her teachings instilled in me and apply them wherever I go after this. I am confident that I will succeed as an esthetician thanks to what she’s taught me.
