I made a human era, forgetting to check in a box on my paperwork that was to help me continue receiving benefits while processing my hearing/reconsideration. The person over my case told me , “if you can’t fill out simple paperwork you must need someone to watch over your money”. (In a rude tone) very condescending.
He said he had called….. “. to fix the matter” ,but I did not answer then said, “ there was no number listed for me”.
The receptionist contacted him to let him know that I was in dire need .. it being the 1st of the moth Im used to getting income every 1st I immediately went into panic mode. He shamed me.
He scrutinize me for my mistake making me feel dumb and useless for being embarrassed to call the social security office to ask for help filling out the paperwork , paranoid of all the recent killings of POC in public places , knowing and fearing the attitude or judgmental condescending tone of anyone over the phone. Lately because of me worrying that 3-1-2022 was going to happen trying to keep up with all the paperwork they’ve sent I was a little off track and disillusioned from all the medical issues I’ve been going through , mentally and physically.
He told me I need someone to help me with my case and as soon as I put my friend on the phone to touch basis, he got angry.
He informed me that my mistake cost him a lot of time on his paycheck and he didn’t have time for sympathy I should have known better.
His main argument was that the Social Security administration had sent me a package in March and I allegedly forgot to mark one box , so that meant he could verbally assault me.
Instead of offering genuine support and help I felt attacked.
I’m living a life with mental torment and sometimes mental bliss ,I could never expect anyone who has never spent a month or two with me to understand. Thats why the Social Security administration should hire people with an understanding ,not a point to make.
I have been receiving Social Security benefits since 2016 I have never been treated this way by anyone in the medical of mental health or an administration based on encouraging mental health and Independence for people with disabilities.
This man made me want to unalive myself for something that was so simple to fix. -definitely felt like harming myself it’s a good thing my friend there for support.
He was also very rude when my friend was just trying to be helpful because sometimes under pressure I’m unable to communicate effectively. This was a contradiction to him saying “if you can’t not fill out simple paperwork maybe You need help”.
When you send papers out to someone with a disability why don’t you highlight the areas that are important so that we don’t miss it ?
Documents are hard to read for someone like me sometimes if you highlight the areas that are most important I know it’s important, this was not done in the case.
The person over my case was very rude about me missing something very important for me.
I was never disrespectful but I I felt disrespected and belittle ,cornered also verbally assaulted.
mental illness is a life sentence not just when someone wants me to put it on and take it off. He was not professional nor considerate.
My grievance is adult abuse ,verbal assault and...
Read moreBefore you visit the Social Security office, here’s an important update from Shirley, the friendly security staff at the front desk:
They no longer accept walk-in visitors; only those with appointments are helped
If you show up without an appointment, expect to wait at least 2 hours just to get one, and then you’ll be asked to return on your scheduled appointment day
To avoid this, make an appointment in advance at by calling the ssn help number: 1-800-772-1213 When you call, press 7 for Spanish if needed Then say “make an appointment” Finally say “agent” to speak with a representative who can help you
This will save you time by not making a trip to the office just to be told that you have to make an appointment and then come back (like...
