We lived at the Wynnewood for a little over a year and were very happy with most of our time there. Being so close to Narberth and Ardmore, a very responsive team of maintenance and management office, and a very comfortable apartment that really made you feel like home made the Wynnewood a great place to live. Then in November 2023 the Scully Company took over, and things went downhill fast and unfortunately led to us needing to terminate our lease and move out. For about 4-5 months, starting in October 2023, we were dealing with moisture coming through our ceiling in the living room from what appeared to be a leak from rain on the roof. After numerous tickets created and being told that “roofers needed to come to fix the roof” plenty of times, it led to a consistent leak that showed up on a Saturday in January 2024. We were told we would need to wait until Monday as maintenance was not on site and would not be able to do anything until they had a roofer come out. Fast forward to Sunday night/Monday morning when a large chunk of the ceiling came crashing down in our living room sending insulation and drywall all over (see picture below). Of course, when this happened, we called the emergency maintenance line, and we were once again told we need to wait until the morning for anything to be done while we were sitting with a giant hole in our ceiling and a constant stream of water pouring in. We also sent pictures to property management (Shannon Argo) so that everything was documented. We needed to stay up throughout the night to make sure our belongings did not get damaged from the water and debris that were coming into our apartment. This caused us to need to take off work the next day, and wait for maintenance/management to come. The next day maintenance finally came and cut out a large portion of the ceiling, and we were once again told we need to wait for roofers to come. We now had a hole the size of a car in our living room ceiling and we were being told to wait. No compensation or offer to move apartments was offered to us at this time.
Fast forward again through three weeks of back and forth with Shannon and maintenance, roofers coming to “fix” the roof, and every other week another promise of “this should be fixed by next week” it led to us being offered to move apartments that would not be ready for another couple weeks. Through all of this, there was still water dripping into our living room and no plan of fixing the ceiling of our apartment. We still continued to pay rent even though we could not use half of our main living area.
After needing to physically go to the office to get responses from Shannon and the management team, we decided we needed to ask for compensation for this time we were dealing with the issue. Shannon offered us half a month rent off. Finally, after roofers came again to fix, we were told to wait for rain to see if the roof would hold. It rained and started leaking once again. We then asked what the timeline was now and no clear answer was given. Due to this, we felt it was necessary to ask to leave the Wynnewood and break our lease. Shannon approved this and we are now moved out of the Wynnewood.
We loved our time at the Wynnewood before the new management team came in and it is a shame that our time is now tainted by this issue that should have been fixed when our first of many tickets was reported. The management team felt like a toxic environment that seemed to cause a clear divide between them and the maintenance team. Mike and Noel were very helpful through the whole process, and our time at the Wynnewood. The problems reside with management and Shannon Argo. RENTERS BEWARE OF THIS...
Read moreI moved to The Wynnewood in 2018, this was back when Alterra Property Group took over the apartments. There was an initial management staff that unfortunately did not do a very good job of managing the property and had extremely poor customer service skills. They would mishandle a lot of guest complaints. For example, I personally saw one older lady almost in tears about an issue she was facing with her apartment. She was trying to tell them about a problem, but the lease consultant wasn't even giving her her full attention and was just kind of brushing this lady off- no comforting words of sympathy, no sincere apologies, just nothing. The attitude was just so bad, they just kind of let her hang out to dry- almost like they didn't care if she left or not. This bad customer service resulted in the property receiving A LOT of negative reviews. Not only that but people were breaking lease and moving out by the dozens.
We STAYED because we really like how spacious and quiet our apartment is and for the price it is one of the ABSOLUTE BEST deals around here. It is right across from Wynnewood Shopping center and the train station. A really great find. However the management was just so terrible that it was driving a lot of people away because of them mishandling customer complaints.
The Alterra Property Group listened to their tenants and that FORMER MANAGEMENT TEAM HAS BEEN REMOVED!
The Wynnewood now has NEW MANAGEMENT!
The manager here now is named Michael Ketcham and he has been by far one of the most accommodative managers I've ever worked with. I highly recommend giving him a call and looking at the apartments before writing them off because of the negative reviews caused by the previous management team. These apartments are beautiful. Set on lovely grounds with a park style feel and so extremely quiet. I have lived here for three years and I have never been able to hear any of my neighbors speak. Whenever we have guests here they are shocked that they cannot hear anything from our neighboring apartments.
My experience with Michael has been nothing short of exceptional. He works extremely hard to accommodate my requests and when I lodge a complaint about an issue it is often fixed within the week if not on that same day. The apartments themselves are really nice- that was never the problem. The main thing wrong was the poor management and bad customer service and those people have been replaced, by Michael- a fantastic guy who is very keen on changing the way tenant issues are handled here. Come by and see for...
Read moreSince Scully Company and Sharron Argo, the Community Manager, took over management of The Wynnewood at the beginning of 2024, they’ve turned this once-beautiful property into a mess. I sensed there were issues with this management company when they gradually let go of the original maintenance team—the people who truly made The Wynnewood a great place to live. The team knew each resident’s name and responded quickly to service requests, helping to create a friendly, well-maintained community.
Once the last of the original maintenance staff were let go, the property quickly fell into disrepair, and all of my service requests were canceled. Check out other residents’ posts, and you’ll find similar complaints. When I tried to contact Sharron Argo in her office to address the situation, the office was always locked, and getting a response by email was just as difficult. However, Sharron seems to find plenty of time to send tenants emails detailing rules about what we can’t do at The Wynnewood. Unfortunately, this now means fewer kids or pets enjoying the property, turning it from a lively community into a ghost town.
Providing good service and maintaining a happy tenant community appear to be the last priorities for Scully Company or Sharron Argo. Their goal seems to be collecting rent with as little effort as possible, and it’s heartbreaking to see The Wynnewood decline so rapidly. This used to be a great place to live, where staff and residents built a real sense of community.
On top of that, I’m fairly certain Scully Company and Sharron Argo may be violating tenant rights. I’ve been living on a month-to-month lease at The Wynnewood since December 2023, but yesterday (10/30/24), I received an email stating that my lease had automatically been renewed for 12 months starting on 9/26/24. I was never notified of this renewal in advance, nor did my original lease indicate it could be renewed automatically. Is this even legal?
To make matters worse, Scully and Sharron have increased my rent by 11.7% per month. Meanwhile, similar units are listed on their website for $50 less than my original rent ($235 less than my new monthly rate), plus new tenants get the first month free!
So here I am, paying a premium for an apartment where maintenance requests go ignored, leading me to spend hundreds of dollars out of pocket to make repairs myself. And now, I’m apparently locked into a higher-rate 12-month lease without my consent or prior notice....
