I’d love to be able to leave a 5 star review for Monica, but unfortunately I was never given the chance to make it to my appointment.
I was originally referred to Monica by my sister who has been an established client. I bought and paid for a Black Friday deal for medium knotless braids for $120. I made my appointment and was set to drive in from where I live in Louisiana for my hair appointment in Lufkin, Tx.
Unfortunately with me living so far away things didn’t work out as I had hoped and I ended up having to reschedule. I made sure to go through her website well before my original appointment date of Jan. 20th, giving Monica plenty of notice. The whole process on her website was very easy and all I had to do was look forward to my appointment.
That was until she sent me a text Jan. 26th saying that I would now have to pay $170 because I rescheduled. She referred to her policy of “no alterations/changes/refunds”. I explained that her wordage was confusing because I didn’t change the appointment type. I was still only wanting the medium knotless braids. I had only rescheduled the appointment day and time, which I didn’t think was an issue since I had gone through her website and used her calendar for her availabilities.
I did however apologize for my confusion, asked for a possible one time exception, and assured a 20% tip on top of whatever profit she was to make from the hair bundle that I was also going to purchase from her.
She refused saying that a reschedule constituted as a change and she would not honor the $120 price that I had already paid. This I understood, but what bothered me was that I purposely made sure to reschedule before my original Jan. 20th date. Had she promptly let me know that I could not reschedule I would have found a way to keep my original appointment. Unfortunately, she didn’t say anything to me until a week after my original Jan. 20th date, making that impossible.
While we were going back and forth, trying to resolve this issue I noticed that she was texting me from a 318 area code (Louisiana) and let her know that I was located in and planning on driving in from Louisiana. Still she refused to allow me to reschedule leaving me with only two options. Cancel the appointment or pay the $170.
At this point, I’ll admit, I was frustrated. I felt like there was more that could be done especially for a client willing to drive in from another state. I was ready to cancel my appointment and asked if I could let her keep the already paid $120 to be used for my niece, another one of her already established clients, but she wasn’t willing to do that either.
She did end up making a one time expection for me, but allowing me to keep my appointment was not what she was willing to do. Instead she allowed a partial refund, even though she doesn’t allow refunds. I took the partial refund which ended up being half of what I paid, but I was left dumbfounded over the fact that she was willing to change her no refund policy and not her no change/alteration policy.
All in all this whole interaction gave me a bad impression of Monica. After seeing what she has done for my sister and niece, I was excited to treat myself and willing to make the 2+ hour drive.
Did she purposely wait a week in order to let me know that I could not reschedule? If not why did it take her so long to see and realize that my appointment had been rescheduled? And why offer to allow a refund but not a reschedule? Was she not willing to work Feb. 11th? In the end she got $60 from me, but lost a lot more, a potential client, a guaranteed 20% tip, and a hair bundle purchase, but I guess she wasn’t concerned about...

Lucky Hair Salon was able to get me in which I was extremely appreciative for, and give me the style I wanted and I was very satisfied and well pleased with the service.
