Updated for 2023: continues to be a wonderful store and wonderful staff! The owner remembers alot of people by name and always has a smile and willing to help. The community is very comforting and kind as well. They are always adding more minis, wargaming, and i see magic the gathering stuff(i dont play but I know alot of people there do!). They even set aside a preoder for me! I asked about mini painting classes and within a day they said they were gonna looking into setting a class up with an expert! So very kind and is honestly my comfort spot when I just wanna submerse myself in gaming.

Old 2022 reveiw: It can sometimes be uncomfortable going into games shops like this as a female gamer. Not because of anything anyone does, but because it can easily feel like we get a little too much attention or get brushed off as not knowing alot about gaming. I have been to this store several times over the last year and I can say my experience is nothing like above. The staff was always welcoming and friendly. They let you do your thing and if you have questions they are willing to answer them. They are also willing too teach. I just recently got into miniature painting and the worker helped break down what I would need and what brands are good or not. Even if they dont have what you are looking for they offer to order it for you at their discounted rates. Honestly, if you are a person who loves nerdy stuff like this or if you want to get into it I suggest giving this place a try. Id rather give my money to a local business offering a great time than to amazon in hopes of saving a few dollars. Fantastic staff and great store. Only wish they carried more tabletop board games or had a few more variety of miniature themes(theres mostly a ton of Warhammer! which is not a bad thing!!). I also think they could try to host classes on painting or introductions to different major games. Even expand to offer a 3d printing service for miniatures? I confess, I'm a nerd, a geek, whatever you'd like to call it, but I wouldn't change for the world. Lynchburg has had a tough time supporting stores like this over the last 15 years. I happen to love stores like this, but understand that I am in the minority (likely). D&D and tabletop rpg's have had their ups and downs over the last 40+ years and it seems to be on the upswing again. Geeks are on the rise and for the first time, considered national treasures rather than dork's that live in their parents basement. Geekery has become "cool" and mainstream and Dragonfire Games has embraced that.

The newly updated store feels a lot nicer. It's large open floor plan lets me explore without feeling like I need to constantly interact with the employees. (A common side effect of being a geek is the inability to interact with strangers without sounding like a complete goofball...at least for me.)

The store caters to players of all kind of roleplaying and war games. On the weekends, it's a little tougher to maneuver with all the gaming going on, but I'll take it as long as the shop continues to thrive.

I recently have started buying/painting miniatures for my 30+ year campaign and loved the selection of minis. That's right, I said "loved". When I first started shopping there, the selection bordered on ridiculous. It would take me an hour to go through the choices and narrow down what I wanted. Lately though, it seems like they aren't restocking the miniatures as often. It's been a month since visiting, but hope this changes.

My other issue with the store is the selection of dice. I realize card games are popular nowadays, but can we dedicate a little more shelf space to dice? When I was younger, Hobbytown was the only place I could find D&D stuff and they had every type of die under the sun. There were so many colors, textures, material variations to choose from. Dragonfire just doesn't live up to the stores of my childhood, but it's still a fantastic place for gamers to meet and purchase their...

So, let me describe the atmosphere here. This shop opened right before I moved to Lynchburg(I had friends that lived there and checked it out prior to moving literally down the street from the shop). I lived there for about a year, and moved about 1.5 hours away(charlottesville). There are two games stores within 30 minutes of me now(only one of which is worth a damn).

I'm still an involved and active part of the Lynchburg local community. They're good people. And I also play to a degree in the Richmond area. I've participated in many an event as well as helped organize a few.

I can truly only speak for the Warhammer 40k scene but can assert Scott's shop(Dragonfire) is one of the better I've had the pleasure of playing at.

And I've seen vibrant scenes of Warmachine, Magic the Gathering, Yu-gi-oh, and multiple other popular gaming systems crowds take residence in Dragonfire games; no small accomplishment considering there's a game store that was present that apparently refused to nurture the warhammer 40k crowd.
