I went to this Kroger this morning, 7/8/15, early before work (8 AM-ish) and picked up a few groceries. I was OK until I tried to check out at one of the self-service registers. Instead of placing my groceries after scanning them up onto the shelf, I began putting them in my basket instead. The register voice said something about putting the items in the scanning area. I muttered, "Oh, shut up." Apparently, this offended the attendant who was standing approximately ten feet away. She barked at me, "Ma'am! Ma'am! Put your items on the shelf! Ma'am! Ma'am!" Her ugly tone took me completely by surprise so I stood still and looked at her, baffled. She came over to my basket and motioned for all of the things to go onto the shelf. "Put everything on that shelf!" I wish I had just come to my senses and simply left everything and walked out. Instead, I obeyed and took everything out of my basket and put it up on the scanned items shelf and finished the transaction but not without a hitch from the machine. The attendant barked some instructions at me. By this time, I was very upset. As I was leaving, she said, "Have a nice day, ma'am," in a tone that was only slightly less sharp; more sarcastic than anything. I looked back and said to her, "Yeah, right!" in a tone that told her that her well wishes weren't fooling anyone. Apparently, her barking had caught the attention of a few of her co-workers. I won't do self-service check-out again. The attendants either ignore you when the registers bawl out a problem or they act put-out. Once in a great while, there is someone manning that section who knows they are there to do a job and not to speak to the customer...
