After moving to this town as our first duty station, I was excited to attend my first military Ball with my husband and decided to shop for a dress. Unsure where to go, I asked around, and everyone recommended Dillard’s. Since it was a last-minute decision, I went there and spent $250 on a dress I absolutely loved. The sales associate who helped me was incredibly kind and helpful.
However, things took a frustrating and upsetting turn when the store accused me of stealing the dress—even though I had already paid for it, along with the jewelry. They insisted I return to the store to address the issue, which was not only unnecessary but also deeply humiliating. I couldn’t help but feel that this happened because I’m Hispanic and was wearing a hoodie that day to cover my freshly done hair.
After paying for my purchases, I visited a nearby store in the mall. As I left that store, a security guard from Dillard’s approached me and said, “You have to come with me.” Confused, I asked why, and he claimed they had seen me leaving with a dress I hadn’t paid for.
I told him, “You’ve got to be kidding. I just paid $250 for the dress, plus the jewelry, and now you’re accusing me of stealing? I have the receipt.” Thankfully, I always request an email receipt and showed it to him, but he still insisted, “No, they’re saying you need to come back with me.”
Reluctantly, I returned to the store with him. Once there, I said, “Before accusing me of stealing, take me to the sales associate who helped me. She can confirm that I purchased the dress and paid for it with my debit card.”
As a new resident in this town, it was shocking and disheartening to experience something so embarrassing and unjust. To be singled out and treated this way—likely based on my appearance—was deeply upsetting. In the end, the security guard dismissed the whole thing as a “misunderstanding,” but the damage was already done.
I am incredibly disappointed—not just with the security team but also with the management and whoever made this baseless accusation. I would never steal or take anything that doesn’t belong to me. Thank God I have the means to pay for what I need. Despite this, I was treated unfairly, and the experience was...
Read moreI always have loved this Dillard’s but I will not be back after my experience yesterday. I stop by almost weekly, as I work in the mall, and never had problems until yesterday. For reference I am 21, I went to look in the juniors section and found a lot of things. As I looked around the sales associates gave me the snottiest glare and I walked around. They were talking loudly about their wild night out the night before and how they got so drunk they got kicked out of a bar. They were only concerned with each other and not customers. They kept glaring at me and whispered about me when I walked away. They never asked if I needed anything. I went to another department and found a much more helpful associate who was able to get me a dressing room. I thought my bad experience was over but no, after I left the dressing room another, much older, associate kept following me. She was trying to not be obvious but did a terrible job at it. Every where I walked she followed, every corner I turned she was there. And every time I looked up she was staring at me. I was planning on buying a good amount of stuff but after this experience I won’t...
Read moreProbably month ago I stopped at Dillard's at EsteeLauder to find me foundation. Larisa was helping me. She was so kind, polite, very patient, and helpful. What I liked about her she wasn't pushy to sell. She proposed me to try a samples of few different foundations and invited me for a full makeover. Week later i scheduled an appointment with Larisa and she did a fabulous job. It was like magic. I looked younger and actually liked the process of having makeover. For the first time someone actually did such a good foundation match and fantastic makeover. Last week I brought with me my two girlfriends so that Larisa will match foundation for them. We had such a blessed time. Larisa is fantastic. I highly recommend her. I wish she will be my neighbor to do my makeover every now...
