This review is for the Bashas’ grocery store located at 21044 N John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa, Arizona. My review of this location is mostly favorable, so I’ll start with the bad and then list the good. The Bad: My first shopping experience with Bashas was about 35 years ago. Another store was closer to where I lived, so I always bought groceries at the closer store. I was given a gift certificate for Bashas’, so I shopped there for the first time to use that gift certificate. I found that the groceries I bought were about 30% more expensive than I was used to paying at the closer store, so I really had no reason to return to Bashas’ for all these years. The Good: When I started buying groceries in Maricopa, there were two national chain stores and Bashas’ which is an Arizona chain. Given that years earlier, my only experience with Bashas’ showed me that they were much more expensive than the other chains, I never shopped there. Even today, I usually shop at the National Chain store across the street, however, a few years ago, the store across the street was very, very busy just before a holiday. I had braved the crowd and didn’t like the experience. When I got home, I realized that I forgot to buy tomatoes. I really didn’t want to go back to deal with the overcrowded store just for tomatoes, so I went to Bashas’. It was easy to find parking and when I walked inside, to my amazement, there were very few customers inside. Walking around was easy and I bought some tomatoes quickly and was on my way. Given how overcrowded the other store was, this was quite a relief, and the tomatoes were roughly the same price as the other store. While I still do most of my shopping at the other store, when they have no stock of certain items, I can usually find it at Bashas’. Also, my wife found that the freshly baked Bolillo rolls from Bashas’ are much better than those from the other store. Now we only buy our Bolillo rolls from Bashas’. The rolls I bought today are soft, fluffy, fresh and delicious. The store is always clean and has good lighting. Bashas’ also has covered parking and it’s easy to find a parking spot that is not very far from the entrance. One of my dislikes about grocery stores in general is that they stack items on the ground blocking the aisles. Bashas’ does this too, however, their aisles are wider than the store across the street. Even with the items constricting the aisles, with fewer customers and wider aisles, this has never...
Read moreThe prices may not be as good as other stores on a daily basis, however, the personal deals I get are amazing! And when they do have sales the sales are really good. I love most importantly, that you can walk through the entire store without running in to other people. I get claustrophobic and going in other stores like Frys and Walmart often send me into these frustrated, borderline panic attacks where I just need to pull myself into a corner, completely out of the way and take a breath. I hate not being able to walk or push my cart without having to screech to a halt so I won't hit someone. Bashas doesn't have that. Even when it's busy. Their quality of vegetables and fruit are really good. I also use to get the $20 meat boxes all the time. (Before the price went up although its still a good deal). For someone on a budget, those meat boxes are super helpful, often giving you very good variety and an affordable price. Their deli is way better than frys and Walmart in my opinion. The food there is delicious and has been fresh everytime I've gone in. My son and I love doing little mom and son dates there with a slice of pizza or some chicken. Just sitting on the stools by the window and enjoying our afternoon. Much better than going to any of the restaurants in town. Overall I'm happy with our Bashas and glad we...
Read moreBashas' has been a great alternative for lunch opposed to all of the crappy fast food in town. The staff is always friendly. The fried chicken is really good. I was hooked for a bit. I recently tried their mango habanero wings. They were better than an actual wing place I've been to. Unfortunately the last 2 times I went I was disappointed. At the end of the day I got two bbq chicken tenders and a fried chicken breast. The tenders were super dry because they had been sitting out too long. The fried chicken wasn't seasoned like it usually is, therefore it was bland. There was a man that seemed to be new/in training. Maybe he seasoned the chicken, idk. Then I stopped by on Friday specifically for the cod, again, right before they close that area. I asked for 4 pieces of cod. The guy asked me if I wanted the other 2 since they were about to get rid of them. I said "sure" thinking those were a freebie. They weren't. No biggie until I go to eat them. 3 of the 6 pieces of cod were completely inedible because they were dried up from sitting out so long. The staff really should not sell the old, stale food to customers. It was a waste of my money and I was left disappointed because I wanted to eat good food but didn't. I know now not to get food from that section at the...
