I am a vendor contracted to stock the trading card section at various Meijer locations, and while I only occasionally pick up the Marion, Indiana store, this is not my first time working there. Unfortunately, my recent experience at this location was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.
As usual, I was straightening the card section before retrieving product from the back. During this, I noticed an Asset Protection team member standing behind a bookshelf, watching me. I was wearing my vendor badge, clearly identifying my role. I tried to make eye contact to acknowledge his presence and signal transparency, but he continued to surveil me without engaging.
As part of my duties, I proceeded to find the storeās black phone to contact the store director for access to locked product. I called and explained to the manager Rani that I was there to stock the trading card section and asked them to please inform Asset Protection so I could do my job without being treated suspiciously.
Shortly after, I was met in the back by Asset Protection and a manager named Rainy, who unlocked the cabinet so I could stock the product. This is the first time over the course of a year and a half and several stores later, that Iāve seen an Asset Protection member went into the back. While waiting for them to unlock the cage, a floor associateāwho Iāve had several positive interactions with during previous visitsāmentioned they didnāt think a vendor would be coming and that they had been stocking the cards themselves for weeks. This is extremely concerning, as the boxes of product are clearly labeled that they are only to be opened and stocked by an authorized vendor, which I am. This violates procedure and raises serious inventory control concerns.
As usual, while restocking, customers came by and picked up items they were interested in. One customer selected a few PokĆ©mon products from the shelf, where a ālimit 2ā sign was posted. My role as a vendor is not to enforce store policies on purchasing limitsāthat responsibility falls entirely on store personnel. Nevertheless, Asset Protection later confronted me aggressively, claiming I had been told not to place those products on the shelf and blamed me for the customerās ātheft.ā
I explained that not only am I required to put the product on for photo documentation. I was then told by both Asset Protection and management that I needed to leave the store. This happened despite me having done nothing wrong.
While I was exiting, Asset Protection escalated further, threatening me by stating heās āapprehended other vendors beforeāāa completely inappropriate and intimidating remark, especially when no theft or misconduct had occurred. He then contradicted his earlier claim, stating the theft āwasnāt a problem,ā only to then pivot and say the real issue was that I āhad an attitude.ā I explained that my attitude was a direct result of being stalked, watched, and accused of wrongdoing while simply trying to do my job. Had he approached me directly at the beginning and introduced himself or even stood in the aisle and watched, this entire situation could have been avoided. His response? āI donāt have to.ā
To make matters worse, this store has a known pattern of mistreating both vendors and customers. Every time Iāve worked this location, Iāve seen Asset Protection follow every customer who walks down the card aisleāeven if they donāt pick up a single item. This is despite the fact that there are multiple security cameras in that aisle already. Itās uncomfortable, excessive, and discouraging for customers and vendors alike. At Marion, they seem more focused on intimidation than prevention.
Iāve never had issues like this at other Meijer locations. The level of hostility and accusatory behavior I experienced in Marion is unacceptable. I am a professional, I respect store policies, and I expect to be treated with the same professionalism and courtesy I extend.
I sincerely hope Meijer management reviews how people are treated...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMeijer is a five star store. Their meet and produce is out of this world Quality! It out beats any other store I have ever been in.. Some things are a little more pricey then like Walmart Unless they are running a sale on it then you can't out beat it. I keep an eye on their ads and get things like bathing needs laundry needs things like that, I'll get as it goes on sale. Then it's there when I need it. I try my best not to have to go to walmart but I will if I can get things like that cheaper but I will not compromise when it come to our food.. I only buy our food at meijer..like I said I trust their food. meets, produce, can goods, ect. I refuse to buy any food at all at Walmart. Read my Walmart review and you will know why. Never buy their food of any kind even if it's in a can at Walmart... If you haven't ever been to Meijer you really need to go. I didn't use to and I went to pick something up Walmart didn't have and now my husband and I call it our store every sence that one stop we made. Wish we would done it alot sooner then we did. It's been our store for over 11 yrs now and no plans on changing that.. We love their fresh meet!!!! And produce!!!! I got my big brother hooked on it too lol.. it's his and his wife store now too.. my hubby is hooked on the M perks he keeps up on the savings he makes every week.. If I forget to use it if I run in there for a quick stop I hear about it lol.. we have saved way over 1000.00 in jest six or seven months with the MPerks card.. great store try it once you be hooked.. don't forget buy your bath and laundry needs when they go on sale it be there when you need it. They do cost alittle more the your cheaper stores like Walmart but remember this too most of the time you get what you pay for.. Walmart waters down their products like laundry soaps so they don't have to charge as much. I bought eara londry soap at Walmart and I bought some at meijer. The meijers same londry soap was not st runny as Walmarts was. I think everyone needs to know stuff like this because I'll bet most people out there don't know things like this. They do it to most of their products. I'll pay alittle more sometimes to get the same brand but a better Quality..I could say so much more but I'll stop here I think you all...
Read moreI always find the Meijer employees to be friendly and helpful, especially the 2ñd shift crew that usually works till 11. Both the male managers, the 1with longer brown hair usually in a ponytail, and the younger guy with black braided back hair ( It may be in a mohawk), both are a blessing to that store. Both always pleasant and so friendly, no matter if you encounter them at the beginning or end of their shifts. The one is very soft spoken with customers and has a friendly always smiling face. The other is hard working & willing to help a customer or employee solve any problem found. I also MUST stop to take the time to commend the older gentleman that greets you as you enter the grocery doors, mostly hes on second shift, but I've seen him on first shift as well. (will update with names asap)This guy puts the JOY in my WHOLE day, anytime that I shop at Meijer. I hope they never get rid of him, and that he'll always be there at that meijer entrance to greet you & I, and to bless our shopping trip with a smile, some positivity, and pure good vibes, until of course he's ready to retire. He's the thing I most look forward to on my shopping trip there, of course, along with those amazing Street Taco kits I can never Find!!! Lolol This is a well-kept, very clean and organized store to shop at. Thank you for your time in...
