J & L Breakfast House — Restaurant in Marion

I have ate at this restaurant for a long time and have always loved it. However my last two visits have not bn good. A few wks ago I tried to call in àn order. The phone was busy for several minutes so waited then tried again. This time it just kept ringing. I got in the car a drove there. I asked the waitress if the phone was working. She said yes but they weren't answering it because they didn't have time for carryout orders. In my mind I was wondering why they didn't put in a recording saying so. She then said it was going to b a 2hr wait if I was going to order. I said no thank you and Left. This last sat I was going to treat a friend to btkfst. Again the phone just rang. Went to the restaurant and again was told the phone was being ignored and that it would b an hour wait if I wanted to order. After 45mins the food was ready. I went to pick it up. The biscuits looked like small square dinner rolls that tasted like the dough didn't rise. . The gravy was watery with very little sausage in it..the sausage was nt cooked thoroughly. This quaint SMALL diner will surprise you on many levels. One; the staff is super friendly!

The place is quick, uses fresh produce, and the plates, utensils are clean.

This place doesn’t go without having its issues, repairs needing done. The parking lot is always full but is in need of repair.

The pricing is a bit higher than other mom and pop shops, but, it’s the quality of the food you get prompting you to overlook the pricing.

Pies, pies and more pies is available which is always a favorite of mine. I don’t like going into a place who has pie on the menu but no pie to serve.

The pancakes were overcooked (hard to cut) but paired with their syrup encouraged us to finish them off.

The ketchup had a weird taste... not sure of the brand, but, it wasn’t a national brand imo. It might have been a knock off brand. Yuck!

The menu is 7 pages long.

The bathroom was 90 degrees when we visited, clean... but could use a good floor scrubbing.

This place also sells various home decor items... hopefully you love mirrors, this place has walls of them.

First time at this restaurant today. Walked in door, sign saying seat yourself covered up, could not see it. None of the 4 waitresses acknowledged us or told us to take a seat. Sat another 7 minutes while waitresses stocked glasses, talked, more stocking, lots more talking. Waitresses with long blond hair finally comes over took drink orders. Talking to at least 6 other people, just chatting, put in an order for someone else. Filled drink order for customer at counter. Another girl came in, waiting to be seated. No one acknowledged her. Still no drinks for us. We got up and left. They evidently have enough regular customers, they don't...
