On Sat., July 2nd, 4th of July holiday weekend, my mom (she's in her '80s) noticed her refrigerator wasn't working and ALL her food in the freezer was starting to melt/thaw, including the food she'd cooked for her beloved pet. Just a note - we'd gone to the orchard and we arrived around 4:30 PM when she noticed this. She called SEARS because she has a SEARS Kenmore and they basically told her she'll have to wait until Tues. (after the holiday). She called another division of SEARS and asked if perhaps she bought a refrigerator (the holiday weekend was having sales on refrigerators) could they deliver it in time to save ALL the food she would lose and they said "after the holiday". Then she called some refrigeration company in the phone book and they told her it'd be $50.00 to come out regardless if they could fix it or not and that they would call her back. * I told my mom, let me call our "Mr. Fix It" and maybe he can come. He referred me to Alex at Expert Appliance Center. * There are NOT enough words to express the level of service and compassion Alex gave to both me and my 80+ mom. OK, so the "visit" fee was more BUT.. he said he'd show up and he did. He told us not to get our hopes up and that sometimes what he does may or may not work. We were sooo lucky, Alex did something with the compressor to get the fan working and then we all listened to the beautiful hum a working refrigerator makes! Then he came in with some more tools and cleaned out the "filter" at the base of the fridge. In addition, he gave my mom and I some very good and cost-saving advice. He recommended some brands of refrigerators to get and my mom was insisting she loved SEARS but Alex has been in the industry and I take his word over any store's advertisement. Additionally, he told my mom to stop with the service contracts. My mom is paying so much for several service contracts and Alex explained why she was throwing her money away. On top of fixing the problem with the fridge/freezer, he told us that if the freezer should break down again, to immediately empty the ice machine to avoid the melting ice from falling into a contraption (name is forgotten) because that can damage it. All this we did not know and would never know as no one at the store informed us when she bought the refrigerator. Then, not only did Alex just "fix" the problem, he stayed longer just to ensure the fridge continued to work and he checked the temperature of both the freezer/fridg. to verify it was in fact getting cooler and cooler. Without Alex, my mom would have lost so much food and so much money as both were packed. Not only that, it's difficult for my mom to get around and go food shopping, let alone make a cooked meal for her dog so Alex's coming to fix my mom's fridge really SAVED the day! We felt incredibly bad that it was the 4th of July weekend but we are so SOOOOOOOOOOOOO grateful that Alex understood this was an emergency and he took time out from his holiday weekend at 5:00 PM on a Saturday to come help us. He didn't just fix the fridge, he fixed my mom and to me that means the world. He is smart, honest and best of all, he is really compassionate. We highly recommend him and my mom has started telling all her friends in her community about him. I hope they take a chance and use Alex because they will NOT be disappointed. He is a GREAT person. We're very lucky to have...
Read moreBUYER BEWARE. I had a problem with some water collecting along the gaskets of my Kitchen Aid refrigerator, ultimately resolved completely by turning off the energy saver (which honestly I probably should have figured out myself by reading the manual). I thought that the problem was due to a broken gasket and I called Expert Appliance Center (found on home advisor), where the receptionist was pleasant and helpful and he provided a price for replacing the two gaskets. I paid the requested 300+ dollars upfront for the gaskets, which he said he would return if they were not used, and he told me that if they were not needed and no repair was performed then I would only be responsible for a service fee of 74 dollars. In the end, the repair person (also very nice and helpful) did not replace the gaskets and when I called for the return of money paid for the gaskets I was told the service fee in my area is 89 dollars and the cost for returning the gaskets is 20 dollars so 109 dollars plus tax would be deducted from my payment for the gaskets. I told the reception person that I was quoted 74 dollars if no repair was performed and I was told that it is 89 dollars in my area and 20 to return of the gaskets. I said that these costs should have been stated accurately when he quoted me 74 dollars and he seemingly understood by did not seem to care. I would have provided a 5 star rating (check my past ratings for companies, mostly 5 stars) but I felt that a 3 star rating was accurate given the easily avoidable misleading initial quote and response when confronted with their...
Read moreWe had a range and dishwasher repair and had called them for repairs. The technician was kind and did help us out. Total cost was to be around 535$ and they would order the parts. We put down 300$ for this. The technician was kind enough to say that the cost of the dishwasher repair was 60$ after we had accepted doing both repairs.
We waited nearly 1 month with us following up weekly for updates. Whilst this is not their fault seems as though the part was discontinued (would've been nice to know this ahead of time) and that the one they went to get was broken (we had to call to find this out).
We followed up again on 7/11 and find out from the manager Greg that they could not perform this repair and would be willing to come by to fix our dishwasher for 95$ (this is based on their invoice) and refund the rest of our 300$. However, we had said the technician mentioned it would be 60$ and were hoping to keep to their honesty. However, Greg kept saying why would we do a repair for 60$ when our visiting fee is 75$ ("it's bad business"). Lest out of what we felt unfair we had taken the refund.
All in all, we are extremely disappointed and frustrated that after waiting nearly a month no repair happened and we were still charged a full 75$ for something we could have known immediately. The discussion with Greg also was disappointing as it seemed the team whilst probably has very knowledgeable staff and technicians were more interesting in making a quick buck than to earn a customer. Would not recommend as the team does not hold to...
