ALALOA LOUNGE — Local services in Maui

Had the smash burger one night, sushi the next. This seems to be just another place that exists because they know you'll tolerate low effort to avoid dealing with valet and driving to get something better. The burger needed something to break up the grease; side salad, pickles, just about anything, but nothing of that nature was on the menu. The guy they brought in to play guitar all night was awful; singing was off, song selection made no sense for the atmosphere. The next night had much better entertainment with a lady singing (great guitar work, songs fit the mood much better) but the food was off again. It was wild that the simplest sushi roll can cost $25+ but they can't be bothered tomake a single one with any sort of balance; some pieces with 3x more rice than filling, some pieces of the same roll nearly all fish, none of the California Rolls with cucumbers. The only saving grace of the evening was Jennifer's service. She seemed to be tending to the whole room herself but she was amazing, never missed a beat or left us needing for anything. I've been to this bar several times before its new name. We stopped in for a drink before attending the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival.

ATMOSPHERE: This is the former "lobby bar" in the Ritz Carlton Kapalua. Seating is a mix of outdoor sofas and chairs on a gorgeous oceanview deck or in the open-air lobby with sofas, high tops and bar seating. Depending on events going on, it can get fairly crowded and noisy. A live entertainer/band is usually performing.

MENU: Apps, salads, sandwiches, burgers, desserts, all priced very high.

BEVERAGE: My friend and I just had beers which were highway robbery-priced.

SERVICE: We sat at the bar and the service was friendly and quick despite a rush of people doing the same thing as us prior to the festival.
