I started going here about a decade ago, and it's always the first place I look for records or CDs. The majority of my huge record collection has been bought from here. The owner, Tim, is awesome, and I've enjoyed getting to know him. The records are priced very fair, and he doesn't sell beat up junk. On average, an excellent to near mint condition LP will be only $4 or $5. Rare albums will be a bit more, but always at a fair price. He has great albums from great artists available all the time. If you don't see the album you're looking for, that's probably because somebody beat you to it. Check often for the albums that sell quickly. The CD's are almost always $6.99 or less, which is a heck of a lot better than paying more for lower-quality digital files on something like iTunes. If you want it on your iPod, just rip it to your computer and you'll still have the higher-quality CD, too. It's a no-brainer. If you're looking for vinyl records and/or CDs, make sure you check this store out. There's also a good chance that he might have stereo equipment or guitars for sale when...
Read moreVinyl Frontier and Tim have been instrumental in the renewal of my love of records. I have always been a music lover, but when a turntable showed up at my house, I found my passion and favorite hobby, listening to and collecting records. I started out collecting records from my childhood that I remember my parents listening to. I was amazed at the vast selection in Tim's shop. I have been able to add records from my early childhood all the way through music I listen to today. Tim has been a great resource for helping me get specific records I was looking for. When I was ready to pack up my turntable for a move across the country I reached out to Tim for advice. He didn't advise me...he packed it for me. It made the trek beautifully. In addition to an awesome music store, Tim has a very generous heart and is always finding ways to bring the community together to help/support each other. Sometimes he brings fun to the community with contests, many of which benefit the people of McHenry. Even though I moved away, I will continue to support the store and Tim's altruistic...
Read moreTim prices his used records fairly, and indicates quality clearly on the sleeve. He also has a decent selection of new records, along with rarities and imports. My record collection has benefited greatly from being close to this store. I don't find a gem every time I visit, but more often than not I do.
anyone who left less than four stars are likely
A) new to buying vinyl and don't understand the rush of finding used, rare or otherwise unreleased albums by one of our favorite artists. The used records go for 1-10 dollars a pop.
B) the kind of people who complain about everything.
We are lucky to have two local record stores in the same town to shop in. Browsing through Reckless and Amazon is a...
