Sheriff’s Office vehicle inspections next door to Jefferson County Clerk —both were very efficient and friendly, in spite of being quite busy. I went with a family member who also had registration business to conduct, so she took a # +waited inside cty clerk’s while i popped over to get my out of state vehicle inspection. Took me longer to move my vehicle to the designated spot than to complete inspection. I was seated back in the cty clerk’s so quickly - max 10 min. If I had known i could, i would have parked in the inspection spot right away, but it made little difference.

We started ab 20 #’s away from the #’s being called for service upon entry, but they had a full, knowledgeable staff up and running through those numbers (right after lunch break). I sat down for maybe another 3 minutes before we were called.

I wish i could recall the gentleman clerk’s name who helped us, but he was very patient and clearly explained the areas where we had questions and / or needed advice for unusual circumstances, and in my case, policy discrepancy w county clerk website info —specifically, re: applying valid ky plates to new vehicle. I interpreted the info i previously received to mean it was applicable for any valid ky license plate / current registration, but according to the clerk serving me in this transaction, it only applies to specialty plates, so I had to get a new tag. It was not a big deal, but I thought I had researched that detail as much as possible, even going so far as to speak to someone on phone / info line ab it months prior.

Anyway, it turned out fine, and the clerk kindly helped me to cover both the end of this year (it was Dec) through end of 2025. The only regret I have was reinforced by this otherwise painless visit, so I have to say this everywhere it is even remotely relevant while I am still awaiting the cheque for remainder owed to me: Please, do not buy a vehicle from Carvana bc they will try to short change you everywhere they can. The final insult is when you register your vehicle in Ky. Do not let them charge you any sales tax or reg fees and do not listen to their bs about anc (ancillary —I am editing this review to remove any all caps and assuage google censor bots) tax. Just trust me. They know you will have to do all this yourself and do not trust that they will fully refund you all those fees (not to mention, stick the customer w dealer assignment fees, etc when general dealrshp practice is to cover such things). Also, their special “inspection” has substandard standards and should basically be ignored as a fake sales gimmick, and their warranty insurance co will shut down any legit claim, so don’t count on that to help. The ppl in customer service and all carvana customer contact depts are super friendly, and I think they’re mostly genuine, but the policies / overall business practices are deplorable. Take your business elsewhere unless you are able to negotiate well; i.e. up on tax laws + can do your own thorough vehicle inspection prior to driving off lot (unless prepared to return the vehicle and forfeit any transfer fees).
