Update: Last couple times we went here it seemed alot more expensive but the menu hadn't changed. You can't read the tickets here, the writing is worse than a doctors prescription, so you have to trust they are being truthful. We were here last night and got our normal order but this time when we went up front to the register to pay I asked for him to tell me what I ordered based off the servers writing and we were being charged for food we didn't order and the pricing for what we did order was written higher than the menu. I totaled up our food from the menu and we were being charged $19 more than what we ordered. A total scam and a horrible business practice. We live in the area and eat here somewhat often, I wonder how many times they pulled this off before I figured it out and how many other people they have done this too. We will not go back, and I would tell anyone still willing to go, double check those tickets before paying.
Reason #2 not to visit anymore. Their margaritas have become extremely weak and more expensive.
Go across the street next to Walgreens, La Cocina de Mama. Better food, better drinks and extremely welcoming staff. 1 minute from this place
Original review: Food was pretty good, standard Mexican food/menu. Fast...
Read moreMy husband and I, along with some friends, decided to try the Westport location of El Nopal after receiving some enticing coupons in the mail. We usually frequent the Mall St. Matthews location, but thought we'd give this one a try. My husband ordered the burrito al carbon and some tacos, while I opted for the shrimp quesadilla.
Upon arrival, we noticed a sign advertising margaritas for $4.99, which inticed my husband to order one. He specifically mentioned to the waiter twice that he wanted the margarita special. When the drink arrived, it was impressively large for the price, so he ordered another.
However, when the bill came, we were shocked to see that we were charged $8.99 per margarita instead of the advertised $4.99. When we brought this up with the lady at the front register, her dismissive response was, "but did you drink it?" This attitude was baffling and left us feeling very disappointed.
Unfortunately, this experience has left a sour taste in our mouths, and we will not be returning to...
Read moreWent with my family after going to see a movie, ordered the morrja frita which was a fried tilapia with tomatoes, green peppers, onions and lettuce. Ate half of the fish and was eating on the tomatoes till I noticed one slice looked a little green. When I further looked at it, I realized quickly it was molded. Got the manager over and he basically acted like it was no big deal. Even asked if i was done eating because of the tomato or because I was full. He then proceeded to say he would take half off of my meal. He meant only MY meal. Which was supposed to be $10. We were paying all with one check so I looked to make sure it was discounted. Not only was it a sorry excuse for half, but they over charged. The labeled the fish as $11 when clearly on the menu it says 10, then with the half off they only charged us $6. That's not even half? Sorry excuse for a usually decent Mexican chain, I can say for certain I will never eat at another el...
