If I could give less than 1 star I would. I purchased several furniture items from Klingman's in Okemos. I did so b/c it appears the business is struggling. I drive by and the parking lot is always empty. I thought perhaps they had closed their doors. So many businesses did not survive the pandemic. I made a HUGE mistake in giving Klingman's my business. One of the items I ordered was a sofa w/a chaise on what was supposed to be the right facing side. Apparently this was a special order. I also purchased other furniture items as well. I was in the store for some hours. At the conclusion of the sale the sales person wrote the order down wrong. Now, there were several items on the order form. The sofa was one of many. When the sofa came, the chaise was on the wrong side. I called the store and spoke to the manager (James). He was the rudest person I have spoken with in quite a while. He kept repeating that it was not his fault. He said this nearly 20 times. I told him this was NOT what I ordered. James' only concern was that the fault was not his. I kept asking what he was going to do about fixing this. He kept saying it was not his fault. This went on and on and on and on. James kept talking in circles. His behavior escalated the situation. I became very frustrated and began yelling at James, asking again and again what the solution was. James just replied each time that this was not HIS fault. Personally, I don't think James is a very smart man. No one with any sense behaves this way. In the end, James said he would charge me a 33% restocking fee if I refused the delivery. My wife then spoke w/James. He told her that he didn't have to help us b/c I had yelled at him. I would never had raised my voice if James had not talked in circles through out the ENTIRE conversation. The TRUTH is he NEVER tried to help. He just wanted to say again and again that NOTHING was his fault. Well, I wont' be shopping at Klingman's ever again. In fact, my close friend has just purchased a new condo. He is in the market to get all new furniture for it. He will be buying NONE of that at Klingman's. I would advise everyone to not shop at Klingman's of Okemos. There are plenty of other furniture stores. No one needs to spend money at an establishment with so little concern about fixing THEIR mistakes, and putting the blame on customers who just spent lots of money in their store. As I wrote earlier, James is NOT...
Read moreThis afternoon I visited the West Saginaw Lansing Klingman's for the very first time. I was with a female friend and planned to purchase a leather recliner.
Upon entering the showroom, we were not greeted, despite observing several sales people standing nearby. I pointed out to my friend how all of the other individuals entering the store were greeted, offered assistance, and had someone follow back around with them.
My friend and I spent a significant amount of time in the recliner section of the store and probably thirty to forty minutes in the store overall. Several times we observed sales people look at us, but there was no acknowledgement of us or offer of assistance (I was so serious about a purchase I had even brought a tape measure for reference).
The final straw came when Bob, one of the salespeople who had already introduced himself to several other patrons, met us in the doorway to the discount area, nodded at us so he could move past us in the small entry way and proceeded to speak to others in the back show room.
I cannot say why every sales associate in this store chose to ignore us while openly approaching other customers, other than to draw the conclusion that they opted to not approach us due to race. For every white salesperson who does not approach a black patron, SHAME ON YOU.
I watched it with my own eyes today. We were INVISIBLE. I truly believe that if I were to enter the store by myself, a white woman, I would have had a different experience. Both of us are both highly educated, professional women from Lansing with jobs serving the public. I am so disappointed, yet not surprised by this experience. Despite finding the chair I wanted, I would not purchase from this store. While I could have sought out one of the sales staff standing in the middle of the store talking amongst themselves, after being ignored, I was not inclined to do so.
A young saleswoman approached us as we were walking toward the exit, but this very much felt like an afterthought, a rationalization for ignoring us. Even she acknowledged that every customer except us had been spoken to. She did apologize but the impression had...
Read moreTina deserves all 5 stars. I had already knew what piece I wanted, but there was a challenge for me in selecting the fabric. Tina didn't miss a beat in assisting me. She was patient and creative and excellent with colors. Communication and availability with her, and the store, were good. There was just one hiccup that kept coming up, that I think the company could find a way to improve on.. I had left a $50 deposit in my name, for samples that I had checked out previously, and had returned. That was all before I started working with Tina, but she saw it there, and I was able to check out samples while working with her, and I returned them again. The deposit remained as it was. Then, it was supposed to be applied to my purchase. However, it seemed to stump anyone that I talked to about what I was going to owe before delivery. Each person could see it, AFTER I would mention it, but no one actually seemed to know how to take care of it, or at least just didn't. Then, I have to wonder if that was the real reason my delivery had to be rescheduled. I had missed the call during my scheduled afternoon delivery time, so they left a message to call them. When I did, they said that the truck had broken down that morning. And, it was then I believe - or on my new delivery day - that the $50 came up again. They were asking why my total payment was $50 short. Again, once I explained it, they saw it, and at that point, it was finally taken care of. Or, maybe it wasn't actually applied - I wouldn't know - but as long as the delivery people could see it - AFTER I pointed it out - I got my delivery. Btw, I like my new Palliser...
