Shopping experience was 5+ stars and the checkout experience was a 1-
I was greeted at the door by two very friendly staff that were smiling and eager to help. I was assisted by Alexa who was kind, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. When checking out, the clerk asked me if I lived in the area and after I said yes, she proved further asking whether I lived in Okemos, East Lansing, of Lansing. Then she went on to ask if I’d ever purchased the shoe brand before and then said she knows a lot of people who have several pairs. She said she knows people that have a pair on their boat, at their condo, at the lake house, in Florida, and virtually wherever they go. A pair for every location basically. She then asked me if I my husband was getting a pair too, then she looked down at the shoes and saw one was for him. I finally told her that this wasn’t my first time in this store, I’m a frequent customer, and I’ve brought my whole family here before a trip to Disney so we could all get comfortable new shoes. Then she stopped asking me awkward questions that had nothing to do with check out. Her questions seemed more personal than professional and oozed of micro-aggression and marginalizations. I have brown skin and curly hair, and I have a right to shop wherever I want to. Her implications made it seem like her implicit bias was getting the best of her and she was questioning whether I could afford the shoes I was buying. It was a very unpleasant experience with this clerk. Her line of questioning came across more as an evaluation or assessment of whether I belonged there or could afford the merchandise. The impact of her questing was exclusionary and caused an unwelcomed feeling. Her questions, tone, and demeanor, left me feeling like integration was not comfortable or normal for her and she seemed to be uncomfortable with my presence and...
Read moreThis use to be the best running store in the state. I dont know what happend but today I was completely disappointed. I would normally drive about an hour to get to this store. I have bought numerous shoes from here in the past. I absolutely love their try and return if they dont work out for you however after purchasing a pair of On Cloud running shoes last week I returned today to swap out for another size and was told they no longer have On Clouds. They did last week but this week nothing. I asked if they had any Nike flyknit as I saw them last week and because I've had good luck with them in the past. Only 3 pairs of Nike were available in the mens running section, all of the $250 dollar variety, but no flyknits. I asked why they don't carry other Nike running shoes like they had last week and he said they could order them for me. I couldn't help but notice in a giant store focused mainly towards running athletes I was forced to look at just a few rows of running shoes. Walls full of boots, sneakers, sandals and spikes but only a tiny section of running shoes was available today. In the past the entire right side of the store was about 3/4 full of mens running shoes. I didn't even want my money back, I wanted a new set of shoes! I drove an hour to get here the first time, now an hour back to return them. Sadly I had to return the shoes I bought and left with nothing but 4 hours of drive time and gas wasted. What happened to the...
Read moreI don't go to playmakers unless I have a specific reason. I needed a good pair of shoes so I can walk with less pain until surgery in October. We saw a billboard on our way advertising their semi annual sale, but I was prepared to pay for a good shoe no matter the price. The parking lit was packed, but some of that had to do with the 5 inches of snow in the lot, but the store was crawling with shoppers. We were greeted warmly and given a shopping bag right at the door. I walked the outer perimeter of the store looking at the supportive leather shoes. I found a couple that I liked, but the sales people were very busy so I didn't stop anyone to get me any of the ones I had found. Then I thought I would look at the sale shoes. Again, I found a few pairs that looked appropriate, and was approached by a salesperson asking if I wanted to try those shoes. She brought both sizes I wanted to try right back first me to try on. Sweet success because when those shoes went on my feet, my bunions & bone spurs were pain free for the first time in years. We were then directed to the checkout room to finalize the purchase I went there intentionally to have a knowledgeable, seasoned salesperson help me find a good shoe, but I was fortunate to find it on my own! The store was clean, and well organized despite all the shoppers! All around good experience as they have a huge selection of footwear. I did purchase a shoe that was on sale, but price wouldn't...
