CONSUMERS BEWARE!! Overly priced, and tried to rip me off! Went in with a Groupon that included eye exam and $150 towards frames and lenses. I don’t use my glasses much so I asked for the cheapest option which for frames were $130.00. So than I asked for the cheapest lenses told me they were the polycarbonate ones for $60, but was told that was separate from the Groupon even though, it states 150 towards frames and lenses. So after showing the young lady the coupon she says it will be $40. The young lady than left I guess to speak to the optometrist and said well it’s $60.00 dollars for the polycarbonate lenses plus and additional $90.00 for them having to be “single vision” lenses. I have no idea what that was and asked and the young lady said it’s so you can see far. That seemed pretty fishy to me. Just didn’t seem right. So I said I’ll just take the frames and the prescription than. They didn’t want to give me the frames even though the coupon I used states that I get $150 towards them. I asked to speak to the person in charge she wasn’t there. They than decided to just give me the frames and when I asked why they didn’t wanna give them to me. I was told because the coupon is for both (a bit earlier I was told it wasn’t included at all). I told them no where, not even in the small print did the Groupon say this. I left very dissatisfied and had a feeling I was being ripped off so decided to research what single vision lenses were and came to find out it just meant that the entire lens would be the prescription! So they lied and added a fancy term I didn’t recognize to charge me an extra fee! I asked another optometrists and they said yeah that’s a bit unusual! I am very dissatisfied with the practices here. I appreciate a place of business that handles themselves with honesty and doesn’t make things up to make more money. This place should be ashamed of themselves and the way they run their business. I went to Walmart and got the lenses for 70 (60 for lens + 10 for bringing my own frames). I’m disgusted that this place was trying to rip me off because I didn’t want to spend money here! I don’t normally post many reviews, but after finding out they were trying to rip me off I thought I had an obligation to do so. Be careful...
Read moreI've been a patient of Dr. Castellano's for a while now, starting from her first clinic in the Royal Oaks section of Miami Lakes. As a certified pediatric optometrist, she's the only one with the patience, skill and bedside manner to help when I need to have my eyes dilated...yes even into my 40's :) She recently expanded her practice to this other location in downtown Miami Lakes and works mostly from there. I was told by the front office staff that there's usually another doctor at her original location.
Before I became more physically active, she was the one who said I should have my cholesterol checked based on what she saw on my eye exam. Both of her offices have imaging that can take an in-depth picture of the inside of the eye to evaluate the different working parts. The good thing about this device, I was told, is it gives one an alternate to the infamous dilation drops.
Ah yes, the drops. Since I had a substantial change in my lens prescription, have a family history and had been a couple of years since I had the dilation she recommended I get it done this year (thankfully all is good). Yes, the drops feel like that scene in "Clockwork Orange" But Dr. Castellanos has a wonderful chairside manner and was able to keep me calm through that procedure.
Like her original office, she has a digital lens system that lets her check multiple combinations for glasses pretty quickly. There's also a great selection of lenses, including some very nice rimless like the ones I chose.
The candy part in the office name? You get a complementary dessert after the procedure (the raspberry chocolate truffle...
Read moreAvoid the disappointment. I now have a pair of glasses that I paid for and cannot wear, they will not even give me a partial credit on them. I took them back to get fixed once and they got them wrong again, they want me to keep coming back and wasting my time. Even if this was "a lab issue", they need to stand behind their products and vendors and make things right.
Mind you, this is not my only time at the practice, I have been loyal to this doctor since she worked at Macy's optical. Also, once you bring a problem to their attention, all they do is deny it so I am sure they will try to deny what I'm saying. I started being disappointed with this place because I liked to go see the doctor that owns the practice, but they kept making appointments with her and then calling me to say she wouldn't be in, this happened 3 times and another time they allowed me to come in and sit there and wait, until I realized the doctor was not in.
I ended up coming back another day and seeing their other "highly recommended" doctor, she was disappointing. They couldn't even give me my prescription that day and said they would fax it but the new doctor was very good at telling me how I should buy the contacts through them. They kept faxing over the incorrect prescription and I had to get 1800-contacts to call them and get the right one.
Don't waste your...
