Mixed feelings about this studio. Christine Gagen is an amazing person and teacher, and the studio for group classes is pretty and bright. The spaces for private classes aren’t ideal because it’s either a small private room without the reformer, or a larger space with a curtain that’s only semi private where you can hear other students coming in and out, and can be awkward when you have to move between spaces during a class. The parking situation is tight with limited spaces, which makes parking stressful when the building gets busy. The process for booking private classes is more complicated than it needs to be, and I had a snafu with cancelling a class when I was sick and my usual teacher was out of town, that resulted in me feeling quite talked down to and blamed for a situation that I didn’t feel was my fault- even though I appreciated being refunded in the end, it came with a lecture from the owner. I have never felt as comfortable coming back to the studio since then, so I’m exploring alternative pilates providers after a year of private sessions at Pandora. Pilates is a very personal thing so it’s important to find the right environment that fits your style best. ——— Edited to add: I appreciate the response by the owner. For clarity, I had agreed with my teacher that we were canceling class due to her being out of town, meanwhile the owner had access to my account and scheduled me with an alternate teacher without asking me ahead of time. I missed a notification of this booking because I was sick and had thought class was canceled by my teacher as agreed ahead of time. No one meant for this situation to happen, but that’s what I meant when I mentioned the private class booking process is overly...
Read moreThis is the third Pilates studio I tried this month and it stood out! Located on the second and top floor of a 90s building on Douglas Road, it's the perfect spot they secured to make the experience more enjoyable. The studio is cozy and comfortable enough to make you levitate during the class.
I jump into the advanced reformer bed, which is secluded in the corner, giving you privacy and the perfect space for you to focus on your session. The ray of light from the sunset hit me while pulling the class, keeping me warm and active during the entire exercise. The studio faces Douglas Park full frontal, which blends harmoniously with the natural spirit of a Pilates class. All these elements combined provided me with the gracious spirit of a tribal Pilates experience, making me wonder if I would be floating on air while I was swinging through the stripes through the Douglas trees. Dr. Gareth paid attention to all details and was on top of our class at all times, combining several exercises and making sure we obtained a complete workout.
I would like to try more sessions in this space, as I think the environment makes it unique to capture an unplugged...
Read moreI cannot say enough nice things about Julia, owner of Pandora Pilates. I started doing Pilates one-on-one with Julia about 3 years ago, after 9 months of physical therapy for multiple injuries sustained through working with a personal trainer. Because Julia is a PT and is constantly taking courses to refresh and enhance her knowledge and modalities, I am never bored and always feel challenged by her workouts. Julia first helped me continue to rehab the areas where I was weak slowly strengthening them, and now is pushing me to achieve more each day. Because of her vast knowledge I'm never afraid I will get hurt, even doing completely new exercises or routines. When I need work in a particular area, Julia will do manual therapy on me and then targeted exercises to address my area of pain. As a person, Julia is warm, kind, smart, knowledgeable and always encouraging. I look forward to seeing her each session. Thanks to Julia, I feel fit and...
