Update, Aug 2025
I cannot in good conscience leave my original 5-star review up, as it no longer reflects my experience with Mika.
After my first visit, I was thrilled to learn that Mika had begun offering lunch service and looked forward to sharing the experience with my family. I called several times to make a reservation, but the phone went unanswered and the voicemail was full. Since we were already in The Plaza, we decided to walk over.
Upon arrival, I warmly greeted the maître d’, someone I fondly remembered. His response was cold and dismissive, asking if we had a reservation. I explained about the full voicemail and suggested he may want to check for missed calls/revenue. He ignored my feedback and waved us off rudely to be seated. Still hopeful, I mentioned that I had left Mika a glowing review and even posted a photo of their mouthwatering dessert. To help him find it, I offered to write down my Google username. What happened next left me stunned: HE LITERALLY TORW THE PAPER INTO SHREDS RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE "and threw it in the trash.*"
As a proud woman of color, I do not tolerate disrespect. Though we were seated, I apologized to the gracious waiter, explained we would not be staying, and left. Since then, I’ve seen this maître d’ in The Plaza numerous times. Not once in several months has he offered an apology —confirming that his behavior was very deliberate.
BREAKING: There's a new entry in the Miami food scene and it's wonderfully disruptive!
ATTENTIVE. Where as, so many, scratch that, most Miami restaurateurs are not. They listen then tell you how they like to approach things rather than designing a superior experience for...you guessed it, the customer!
From the moment me walked in, Luca listened to my friend and I contemplate having dessert and coffee. Attentively listening, he could see that I wanted dessert more than my friend so he whisked me away saying, "Come, if she doesn't want to have dessert with you then I will have dessert with you!"
We had the budino - a chocolate lover's dream and clearly a staff favorite (Thank you Brian, Stuart and the other bar staff) and coffee. The flavors were an incredibly silky smooth blend of milk chocolate with a dark chocolate outer shell so it quelled my sweet craving without being cloyingly sweet. But the presentation though, WOW, picture attached as it's simply a must see!
Evan, the host who started our experience, ended it with a mini tour of the restaurant and a few of its key spaces along with a sneak peak of what more is to come.
Mika's decor is captivating. The best way I can describe it is a luxurious Dubai sand dune oasis. The design is literally artful and thoughtful from floor to ceiling and every element in between.
I CAN NOT WAIT...to make my way all around, up, down, sideways through Chef Michael White's menu with Mika wine cellar pairings and craft cocktails.
See you again very, very soon!...

My experience at Mika in Coral Gables was deeply disappointing, and what really ruined the night was the service. I was attended by an Italian waiter whose attitude was completely uninterested. Although his English wasn’t perfect, what really bothered me was his lack of charisma and empathy. From the moment he approached the table, it was clear that he had no intention of making us feel welcome; his tone was cold, and he showed no enthusiasm or interest in our experience.
What was even more surprising was the attitude of the managers, who seemed completely oblivious to what was happening in the restaurant. There was no attempt on their part to improve the situation or ensure we were satisfied. This total indifference toward the customers really left a bad impression. It’s clear they don’t care at all about the quality of service they provide.
To top it off, Mika feels like just another tourist trap in Coral Gables, with overpriced food and underwhelming service. It’s the kind of place that looks flashy on the outside but falls short in almost every way once you’re inside. A location like this thrives on attracting visitors who don’t know better, but locals and repeat customers will quickly see through the facade.
In summary, Mika is a place that doesn’t even meet basic service expectations. With a lack of empathy, uninterested staff, and managers who seem to care little about customer experience, this restaurant is a perfect example of what happens when a place relies solely on its location and not its quality. I will definitely not return, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The lack of professionalism and the poor attitude of the staff made our visit a truly disappointing experience. Be very careful, locals—this is just another tourist trap with poor value in...
Read moreI have to add a note before my review. I saw in the Mika reviews what appears to be claims of a racist interaction which is definitely possible but I have my doubts as there were black, white and essentially all colors and ethnicities at Mika during my visit. The thing that I cannot support is that an entire group of people left the same review? like 7 people? a little ridiculous. The people leaving the review appear to be hispanics? I'm hispanic.. Most of Miami is hispanic, what racism? You are assuming because you were turned away that it was becuase of your race? That is an assumption and very ignorant way of thinking. I would think that they did not get a table or were turned away for some other reason and they are purposefully damaging the reputation of this restaurant. No I have nothing to do with Mika and I don't personally know a single person there.
First impression walking through the door was wonderful, the staff greeting at the door was very welcoming and warm. The place is beautiful and has an upscale feel. The food was delicious, we had the tuna carpaccio and lobster burrata for starters, super fresh and delicious. For entrees we had the Tagliatelle and the Prime Skirt Steak, both were amazing. We also ordered a side of the potatos and wow they were spectacular. For desert we ordered the Caprese Torte but as a surprise for my wife's birthday they also brought out a few other deserts and they were alll amazing... I was stuffed before we ordered dessert but somehow we didn't leave a single crumb on the plates. Ennio came by the table and truly made us feel appreciated and welcomed, he offered to take a few photos of us and really just made the visit to Mika unrforgettable. I LOVE good service and Mika and the team checked...
