I was sent here from IT at my school. I had severe water damage to my computer. I had high hopes of going here and getting good service due to the really good reviews online. I called before arriving to see if I needed to make an appointment. There was no answer, so I left a voice mail. Now, I was freaking out because all of my classes are online due to COVID and I am now computerless, so time was really of the essence.
I waited about an hour for them to get back to me, nothing. I called again. No answer. This same process repeated for about 3 hours until I finally decided to just go there and walk in.
When I got there there was a different number posted on the sign in the front than from what my school's IT department gave me and what is posted here online. A little suspicious but whatever.
So I talked to the gentleman inside and he said he would take a look at my computer and give me a call by the end of the day. I asked about the phone issue, and he brushed it off. They said they were just going to diagnose the computer and then call me before they did anything else.
So I waited all day, and did not hear anything back from them.
I waited until the next day, I still didn't hear anything back, so I called them. AGAIN STILL NO ANSWER. I left a message and decided to just show up AGAIN!
When I got there, they were very unfriendly and unprofessional. Would not even make eye contact with me. I asked them why they didn't call me yesterday and they did not have an answer. I told them I kept calling and questioned them WHY THE HELL WONT THEY PICK UP THE PHONE?
He said "did you leave a voicemail?" and I replied " yes, I left three".
His answer: "sorry that's my fault."
I was ok until this point, but then he told me that HE WAS BACKING UP ALL MY DATA AND INFORMATION FROM MY COMPUTER TO ANOTHER LOCATION IN THEIR OFFICE. He never told me he was going to do this! Not that I have anything to hide but 1. he never called me and told me he could not fix the damage to my computer and 2. WHO SAVES SOMEONE'S PERSONAL INFORMATION WITHOUT ASKING THEM FIRST? (kinda illegal)
I told them I would not be paying for my data/information from the old computer because they didn't ask me first. I paid the diagnostic fee ($25) and left.
AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
In the long run, I had to buy a...
Read moreAll I can say is AWESOME! I had gone to the Apple Store at the Providence Place Mall because my 27” iMac had failed. The Apple Genius I had was super cool and helped to diagnose the issue but then told me that they would be able to check in my computer because it was a late 2012 model. However, he was good enough to send me to the PERFECT place! Besides, they are Authorized Apple-Certified Geniuses themselves. So I was happy. I called and spoke to Jason and Ben and they said absolutely, we can help you. Come on in! I went down the following day, checked my computer in with Jason and Ben spoke with me to find out exactly what the issue was and what my options were. So I agreed to have my failed Fusion drive with an SSD hard drive and I left the store and headed home. About an hour later, Ben called and told me my computer was just about done and wanted to know what version of the OS I wanted on it. I agreed on what he suggested and told him I’d pick it up the following day and thanked him. Today, I went back and picked up my iMac and brought it home. It’s amazing, it’s running BETTER than it was before the old drive failed. It’s so quiet and fast! AND, the price was VERY reasonable. I was so happy to get my computer repaired for a fair price instead of having to buy another one. This was an expensive computer when it was new and the newer (2019) comparable 27” iMacs had the same specs. Soooo, I want to use this thing until it can’t be used any longer. If you have ANY Apple/Mac issues I HIGHLY recommend Newport County Computers (NCC). I met a couple of other techs there today when I went to pick up my machine and they were also very nice. If I could give NCC 10 stars I would, but it’s only a 5-star rating system. ;) Thanks again, Ben...
Read moreNewport County Computers rescued me from near disaster when my $2800 Macbook Pro 15" suffered destruction to the keyboard! I feared the worst when I called other local computer repair facilities and they informed me that I would have to drive all the way up to the Apple store in Providence and pay to get the unit replaced completely . Simply not in my budget! I did one final web search and came across NCC. I called and Matt answered the phone, asked a few questions about the all keys I was experiencing trouble with and damage, and to my great surprise informed me that they would replace the entire keyboard with speakers and all for FREE and bill Apple for the service! I was elated! He had the hardware 36 hours later and my laptop was fixed 4 hours after that. I even got a brand new battery! So HUNDREDS of dollars of new equipment without a penny out-of-pocket. Since that time, I have had NCC install a 1TB solid-state drive on one of my other MacBook Pros, and they gave me a 50% discount as a repeat customer! They also did a 16GB RAM upgrade on my oldest eight-year-old MacBook so now it is running MacOS High Sierra and synched via iCloud with all of my other devices.
