Folklore Bookshop — Local services in Midway

After following wanting to visit for the longest time, I finally made plans and added this as a stop on a day long indie bookstore adventure. We planned our day and checked closing times. We arrived at 6:25- 30 minutes before close. We just started to browse when an employee approached us to announce the store is closing now due to a special event. There was no signage or anything warning potential customers of the early closure. The next morning I saw an announcement on social media about the early closure. If this was something that was promoted earlier, I know I would have made adjustments. I put down the books I was considering and left.

I completely understand special events changing hours. The frustrating thing was that the social media post about closing early was made the same day- after plans were made and the trip had started. This is a wonderful bookshop! It has a little something for everyone, and such a magical feeling to it. You can tell the staff really put care and effort into their displays, adding small details here and there to stumble upon (cute book nooks, tiny bunnies around easter time, etc.). This place is so easy to get lost in for hours. I've stumbled upon some wonderful finds here--classic books with beautiful binds, fantasy books with sprayed edges, books for my baby boy (now toddler). Someone is always available and around if you need anything or just want to talk books. I enjoy coming here to write when I get the chance, and I recently joined their Fantasy book club. Good selection of books. I like that the staff makes their written recommendations on books they’ve read, those are so helpful as you browse around the store. I saw many titles I have read and loved and many more that were on my “to read” list. I think there’s a little something for everyone to walk out of here with a book they’re happy with.

I did not get a chance to talk books directly with any staff members, wasn’t greeted or engaged by staff at all, even as I approached the register. I was in the store looking around in detail for at least 10-15 minutes minimum. Sometimes it’s nice to just shop quietly, but I like talking books and some general friendliness.
