Attended Intro to PMC, for 3 hours at $90. Three hours is appropriate if you intend to buy additional supplies to fill your time (PMC can be pricey depending on your budget). Materials included in class price really only filled 2 hours but maybe this was due to our small class size. Instructor was fair, but lacked information on what exactly PMC was or what the other chemical components of the process were. I asked two questions regarding what the materials consisted of and received “I dunno” and “You like chemistry, don’t cha.” As if that were absurd. A box of stamping materials was disorganized, unclean or even unprepped for student use which was frustrating. Overall, it was, “Here’s your clay, make a pattern, fire in the kiln, file and polish,” which you probably figured as much even without a nominal amount of jewelry/sculpture experience. I want to like this studio and will eventually try something different. But for me this was an expensive mediocre experience and I gave it three stars instead of two because the practical contact was decent, maybe I was crazy hoping for more educational info as well. For that you’ll want to reference Wikipedia’s “Metal Clay”...
Read moreSo I ended up taking 5 classes during my limited time in SLC- an intro to metalsmithing pendant/ring class and double stone ring class with Sabrina, stacker rings and intro pendant/ring with Jordan, and lastly a cuff bracelet class with owner/extraordinaire Brittany. I have had smithing lessons before but it had been several years and I was not confident with my torch and soldering skills. I've left not only confident with my torch and tools, but motivated and over the moon about the jewelry I created there. The spacious studio is stocked with every tool possible to fabricate handmade jewelry from enameling to casting to lapidary. Everyone was super friendly, accommodating and the wealth of teaching knowledge across the board was crazy. The class schedule was consistent and full, with lots of options that did not involve enrolling in semester-long classes. 10/10 recommend 👏🏼👏🏼 Hopefully I can return and take...
Read moreThis is the second time I have taken a class with the school and I cannot say enough good things about my experience there both of my instructors were incredible. My first class was a silversmithing class for beginners and second class was a lapidary class for beginners. I had the pleasure of taking the lapidary class with the owner, Brittany, she has an incredible wealth of knowledge, she’s so patient and such an amazing instructor. I have also made jewelry at the gem studio and the quality compared to what you make at B golden is not even comparable. The weight of the silver is drastically different the quality of everything and the prices at B golden are so much better and so much more affordable and they actually teach you how to make the jewelry yourself. Unlike other places they don’t do it for you. If you’re interested in learning how to make jewelry I would definitely sign up for one of...
