CONS/comments: The only reason i give four stars is because the price of the gym is, in my opinion, too high for what others have said: often stale routes or routes only geared towards comp; and equipment being broken for months at a time. I would also love to see adult-sized towels :) i will warn other climbers that simply because of the volume of people at this location, the wall etiquette is little to none. people stand on the mats, climb under you, attempt routes 15+ times before giving anyone else a turn… it’s frustrating but not the gym’s fault by any means. However, these are minor to me when considering the size of the facility and everything else they have to offer aside from a few minor frustrations.
all in all, i love The Front! this location is incredible compared to so many other gyms, especially in other states. it does have chalk everywhere like other reviews have said, but this gym is literally gigantic and would take someone all day and constant attention to keep the chalk at bay. and, it’s a climbing gym, people are using chalk constantly. it’s going to be in the air. Whenever i’m here in the morning/midday, there are always staff trying to vacuum and wipe down the chalk from surfaces. They vacuum the mats at night, and i know they’re doing their best to keep it clean when they have a volume of hundreds of climbers a day in and out of their gym!! it’s not easy maintaining a facility that big, especially when it’s not necessarily in the hands or control of the staff to keep things fixed and working properly, even if they want to. Please cut them some slack; i always see them working hard and being helpful to the climbers...
Read moreI normally don't write reviews but this one is warranted. I've been very disappointed with this gym over the last few months. The workout equipment is not maintained and there is dust on literally every machine in the place - I have not once seen anything cleaned by the staff since joining. I was on an assault bike a few weeks ago and the crankarm fell off while I was pedaling. When something breaks there is commonly an "out of order" sign put on it and it will be left like that for weeks. This negligence is carried into their locker rooms, as the brand new sauna at South Main has been out of commission due to "misuse" for over a month now. As someone who uses most aspects of the facility (bouldering, fitness equipment, sauna) multiple times a week I've been let down greatly by the lack of maintenance in this place, and ultimately have decided to cancel my membership as a result. The Front has a lot of promise but in my opinion for the monthly price (~$95) it's just not worth it due to the...
Read moreI've been climbing here since August (mainly top rope, also started leading recently), typically 2-3 times a week and I love it. Most other climbers are kind and considerate, staff is friendly, and there's a good range of difficulty in routes from total beginner to crazy-hard and everything in between. The walls here are TALL compared to other gyms, which I appreciate now, but took some getting used to when I was new here. They reset the routes about every 2-3 months from what I can tell, which keeps them from growing too old. If it were up to me they'd get reset a little more frequently, maybe every 6-8 weeks, but that's only a minor suggestion.
What else? They've got lots of bouldering, weights, ellipticals, ping-pong tables, and Jiu-Jitsu and yoga classes. They also have climbing classes that you can get some nice gear out of while learning good skills. Overall I'm very happy with my membership here - it's a great place to spend a few...
