At first, my time with this congregation wholesome, despite a few issues. There are obviously a lot of social issues that are going to happen between people of largely different demographics. Myself being a young adult black lgbtq person, and most of the congregation being the older white upper-class population. However, in this past year I have been unable to attend service due to moving. somewhere in Fall of last year, I reconnected with the congregation asking for rides over winter. I was going through some particularly strong feelings and which I felt as though I needed the community. It took a while for them to respond, for them to tell me that they would be busy with event. And then after that it was another while to respond But by the time they got back to me I no longer felt I needed the community. I know I'm not entitled to a ride, but in terms of communication the ball with severely drop. And the upon expressing my Views about How I observe the situation being handled, they cease communication with me altogether. I have a lot of "abandoned" feelings about that. Not to say that they haven't helped me with other things in the Past, and I've never asked for anything major. But I'm from a community where a ride to/ from church is basic because any congregation wants an ample amount of people to attend, so it's shocking disappointing to see Things Fall Apart about something like that. I hope they do better...
Read moreFirst Unitarian Society is a welcoming, inclusive place. It’s such an awesome community without the strict religious restrictions. People come from all types of faith backgrounds and all are accepted. Their services consist of literary readings, songs, etc. It’s refreshing to be in a space where people are cognizant of their privilege and ability to help others in the name of social justice.
