FIVE STAR JODI REVIEW Re: Excellent Encaustic Class at Penland and continued Live Zoom Lessons: Jodi Reeb is truly amazing! We all had a wonderfully memorable, motivating, positive, experience this week (September, 2023) in Jodi’s encaustic class at Penland! I so look forward to developing a daily art routine - thanks to Jodi’s positive influence. I am determined to continue the "Penland momentum" from the amazing energy and atmosphere of Penland and Jodi's teachings. The synergy at Penland was fueled with Jodi’s positive reinforcement and entertaining teaching style, as well as Penland's atmosphere, modern facilities and awesome staff. We all feel like we got to know Jodi on a genuine level, while learning so much about technique - all the while through Jodi's positive, lite hearted, carefree approach AND, ALL THE WHILE JODI PROVIDES teaching excellent (complex) safety measures, as well as expert guidance for each of our levels and individual styles of painting. Jodi is a fantastic instructor. She was proactive and responsive from the very beginning, supplying studio directions and notes in advance of the class, and making everyone feel like welcome guests in her studio. She is also highly organized, sharing some art history, a great syllabus, and a detailed supply list should a student wish to set up his/her own home studio. Her demos were engaging, informative, and fun. Jodi also left plenty of time to play and explore with the generous amount of encaustic materials available-- and everyone in my class completed at least three finished pieces during the session! There is guided instruction, with Jodi available to answer questions; yet plenty of room to fulfill your own creative vision without the instructor hovering/helicoptering. Overall this was an engaging, creative experience in a beautiful studio space, with a wonderful instructor....

Jodi’s encaustic photo collage workshop is 100% recommended. In fact, any of her workshops would be five stars because she is an excellent teacher. Her demonstrations are invaluable to launch students into their own work. I was nervous as a beginner but she reassured me with her steady presence and suggestions. She had the uncanny ability to show up exactly when I got “stuck” and encouraged me to find the next step. She is a very generous teacher sharing years of accumulated creative and technical insight. Her energy level was just right and propelled all of us to do our best work. I went to the workshop feeling like it was the first day of school, but I left wanting to do more art.
