Unfortunately did not feel welcomed here. Walked in and wasn't greeted. Didn't even know if there was someone working there. Looked around and no one said anything to me.
There were a few pairs playing games at tables in this very close and intimate space. Looked around a bit for a board game to play for a night with friends, after exhausting Target's options.
Was a little confused about which games were for sale and which games were for playing and also was hoping to talk to someone about games similar to Catan. But there was no one behind the counter and no one had identified themselves as an employee who could help.
After looking around the space for about 5-10 mins another pair of customers walked in and someone sitting down welcomed them cheerfully and asked them if they needed help with anything.
It was at this point that I realized there was an employee there who had been watching me this whole time but hadn't said anything to me. I immediately looked at him with questioning eyes and he looked at me with guilt. We both understood what had transpired but he offered no apology or assistance.
I want to believe this was just a case of poor customer service and had nothing to do with me being the only black person in the store. I chalked it up to the hazards of shopping local in Mission, KS.
I left feeling unwelcomed and disappointed. Just serve your customers, greet every customer and be available for assistance. Avoids any...

You can play board games for free! No purchase of anything required. Although, the cafe next door is owned by the same owner so food and drinks purchased there can be brought into the board game area. You can also rent board games to take home overnight for 10% of the original price of the board game per night. For example, the board game Wingspan originally costs $60.00 so you can rent it for $6 per night. Thursday nights from 6pm tp 9 or 10 they have Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) night, and Fridays starting at 7 they have Magic: The Gathering. They probably have other game nights as well. We had fun playing Ticket to Ride: Rails and Sails the Great Lakes and The World. We only played The World side and it took us over 2 hours! But it was our first time playing and learning the rules, and we had 3 players. The rules really aren't that hard, I'd say it's a medium...
Read moreMy first visit to little little shop, that is stocked from floor to ceiling with endless entertainment, was a blast. Walter, the man behind the counter, was suberb in every way. The floor to ceiling shelves, fully stocked with hundreds of games I never knew existed, was a bit daunting at first. But Walter quickly led to at least five or six games he knew I would be interested in. It was great to see him full of excitement in sharing these games, which he had obviously played and loved. Unfortunately, i was unable to purchase them all, but could not be more pleased with the game eventually selected, chosen because of his recommendation. It was great to see another grown man nerd out super hardcore with every bit of enthusiasm I have when it comes to board games. I look forward to going back, again and again and...
