I had scheduled a surprise tattoo for my dad for his birthday at Klexos with Tre Maxwell. I reached out to Tre via Instagram and the first thing he said was that surprise tattoos usually don’t go over so well, which makes sense. However, it was a tattoo my dad had been wanting for years and had asked me to find him an artist for years. So he knew about it, just not that I found an artist and was going to pay for it. On my dad’s birthday I told him the surprise and the day before the tattoo appointment my dad called me… to cancel. He had gotten sick. I messaged Tre as soon as I could but I knew with the late notice and my first time to this artist I would lose my deposit. I asked Tre if I could take the appointment in exchange so I wouldn’t lose the deposit and Tre would still make a paycheck roughly the same amount my dad’s tattoo would have been. We worked together to find an idea and the next time I showed up for my impromptu tattoo appointment. I had never been to Tre before so I had to fill out some typical forms and then we started shortly after. His stencils were perfect in size and we hard had to wait before he began tattooing. Tre was very informative and explained everything very well even though I already have tattoos which I appreciated and respected. He warned me tattoos on the back of my thighs is a rough spot but I sat as well as I could. He was professional and friendly. I had brought a book to read but Tre and I ended up chatting all 4-5 hours the tattoo went on for. We took a few 5-15 minute breaks and Tre even bought us sushi near the end. He charges pretty steep for his art but the tattoos are worth it. He gave me aftercare and I will 100% be returning. Side note: the shop is also pretty cool with snacks and drinks free to all and artwork available to buy. There are many artists in the shop and many different styles to choose...

On Sept. 6, I independently scheduled with Nick Demars for a cover up calf piece to be done on Nov. 11 in memory of my son who passed in July.. I was asked to PayPal a $100 deposit, which I did. On October 24, I saw on Nick's Facebook a post detailing why he wasn't COVID vaccinated. My husband has an aggressive PTCL (NOS) cancer (diagnosed shortly before my beautiful son died), and we have had to be ridiculously careful not to expose him to anything while he is having his chemo treatments. The plan is for a stem cell transplant in February, but a COVID exposure could delay his current therapy, thereby delaying his transplant. I messaged Nick, explaining to him the situation. He was completely non-sympathetic and instead told me I was more likely to catch COVID at the grocery store. I tried to again impress upon him the isolation we have had to impose, and how dangerous it would be for me to be in such close contact with someone unvaccinated for an extended period of time.

The upshot is that Nick has flat out refused to refund the deposit. Perhaps he was unable to fill the appointment with only two weeks notice, but I would have assumed his book was full and included a waiting list of folks willing to take the time.

Nick is, without a doubt, a talented artist, as a person, however....I'm not impressed. Nor am I particularly impressed with a studio that would allow such behavior from...

Initially, my husband & I just stopped in because we were on our way to dinner and didn’t know that a new business had come to the area. We were pleasantly surprised with how friendly everyone we spoke to was and the shop was very inviting. My husband spoke with Nick and set up an appointment. We love the tattoo he did for my husband and honestly spending 6 hours with someone we really connected with him. I even scheduled an appointment for the next day. I was not as strong as my husband as I need to go back for another session, but Nick made me feel comfortable and said we can stop, or keep going whatever makes you feel the best. Nick is expensive but well worth it, as you are getting a piece of art with his designs. If you want some color realism he’s for sure your guy!! I’d recommend 20/10. My tattoo is still not done, and my husband is only 2 days out but we will for sure post once they are completed. If you are not looking for color, there is someone available for all your needs.
