Food Lion — Local services in Morganton

The good, the bad and the ugly...has been remodeled within the past few years, so it’s clean and fresh. The front end is pretty lifeless upon entering the store, with lots of employees standing around doing not much of anything. Produce department is decent most times, but with occasional out of stocks on popular items ( strawberries for example in the summer). Department is kept clean overall. Meat department is known for items out of stock, especially sale items. I’ve had to get numerous rain checks due to sale items not in stock ( steaks and Boston butts for example). Market employees are usually not sociable and their appearance isn’t exactly what I would say we’ll groomed. Selection is usually sparse on steaks in particular. Either really thick or paper thin selections is all you will find. Grocery shelves also have their out of stock items, but I guess this is typical of any grocery store. Lots of clutter around the perimeter of the store with all those cardboard bins of stuff, usually which are pretty low on items and look horrible. The bakery/deli department always has variety on their tables and cakes always appear nice. Employees are friendly and don’t mind helping out when needed whether it be pointing us to the right direction to find that one item we didn’t find throughout the store or to help us decide on a particular item that they have. I have always been asked if I would like to sample a certain meat or cheese item before I purchase. This department always appears clean and employees are always clean in appearance. Hot items are fresh and salads and sandwiches are neatly made, not just that thrown together look you find some places. The additional displays the bakery has always make sense. Nice display in summer with angel food items near the strawberries, seasonal displays are always massive with plenty to pick from. If there ever is an issue, the deli team is always willing to do their best to make it right. Can’t say the same for other areas of the store. Can I go get bakery items from another competitor for less? Sure, but the service you get there doesn’t match the deli team here. Kudos to the bakery/deli manager and their team for the outstanding work they do. Maybe other departments should follow suit. Checkout is pretty, well...blah. Usually with who appears to be someone of importance...someone in management I suppose, standing by a pole up front looking around like he is lost. Store manager and the assistant manager would only be identified by maybe a dress shirt and tie (which is rare). If it weren’t for their name tags, you would never know who they are as there is no interaction with customers. If that’s how they treat their paying customers, I sure do feel sorry for how the employees get treated. This store used to be friendly and the place to shop on this side of town, but with the recent management changes over the past 4 or 5 years, it has gone down hill. It’s as if you can feel a sense of unhappiness when you walk in. Hopefully, store managers will change, as they seem to do every so often, and the atmosphere...

To the very very nice and considerate employees of Food Lion in Morganton on Burkemont Ave. Thank you so much for turning my hectic shopping experience into a very enjoyable one to say the least. While my two year was screaming and fighting me to get down and my other two were bouncing off the walls you could have been annoyed and given me rude looks like most people do but instead I had a lady in the bakery chase me down to give my babies some chocolate chip cookies and yes not only were my kids very satisfied eating some cookies but it kept them quiet for the rest of the trip and for the ride home as well. I also want to say thank you to the nice gentlemen at checkout. He was so nice and encouraging me that I was doing a great job. Congratulations to him and his g/f who are expecting their first child (a boy). And I can't forget the other customer who was a very nice lady also and who expressed to me how she was in my shoes once and she now has a grandson. I just really want to say how much I appreciate these kind hearted people who made my day just a little bit better. Kind words/gestures...

Always clean and well stocked with friendly staff. If they do happen to run out of something, they will give you a rain check no problem.

I like the upgrades that they've made to the stores with the extra wide aisles and self checkout option for when you just need to run in for a few quick items.
