I strongly advise caution if you're seeking care from the neurology team at this hospital. My experience, both during my inpatient stay and at a follow-up appointment, was deeply disappointing and at times alarming. During my hospitalization, I consented to a bedside lumbar puncture around 2:00am. A third-year neurology resident attempted the procedure three times around 4:00am--each attempt excruciatingly painful. After the third try, he mentioned needing a larger needle. At that point, I refused further attempts and requested the procedure be done under fluoroscopic guidance, which finally happened painlessly the next day. This suggests that my suffering could have been completely avoided with proper supervision and planning. Even worse, the official documentation falsely stated that the supervising neurologist was present throughout the procedure--which she was not. When confronted, she denied it until shown a screenshot, then said she would "have to go in and delete that," which she did. This kind of false documentation is deeply unethical and unacceptable. My condition--IIH, which can lead to vision loss--was not handled with the urgency it warranted. Communication from the neurology team was minimal. I was left feeling ignored and uninformed during a very vulnerable time. At my follow-up appointment with neurology, I explained that I was still vomiting. Rather than investigate further, they pushed mindfulness techniques and suggested my untreated anxiety was the cause--even though I've had anxiety my whole life and it has never caused vomiting before. This felt dismissive and unhelpful. If you're dealing with a serious neurological condition and need thoughtful, attentive care, I strongly recommend finding a different team. The neurology department here left me feeling disregarded, misled, and unsafe.

Came to visit my sick mother. I’ve been standing in line outside for over 20 minutes just to get checked in. There are about 40 people ahead of me. The lady beside me is trying to get upstairs to see her daughter before brain surgery. This is absolutely ridiculous! I worked at this hospital for a decade and it’s worse now than it was 10 years ago. I only gave you 1 star because it made me. It’s also cold and raining. Do better!!!

I don’t normally share this kind of stuff because it is medical but I feel like at this point I’m unsure of what else to do. This is my currently experience with WVU medicine (Reedville,WV) and Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Yesterday I went for a routine check at my midwife, the day started normal but at my appointment I soon felt like I was going to pass out, but not just once but THREE SEPARATE TIMES all while my midwife was in the room trying to help me, at the end I was sitting on the floor vomitting into a bucket. (I also now know that they did not chart or even note that this incident occurred in the office) My husband had to come pick me up after the NST test they ran and my midwife said if it happens even one more time to go to the birthing center at Ruby Memorial, well not long after getting home it happens again while I’m laying in bed, so as the midwife said we pack up and head to the hospital, along the way it happens TWICE MORE in the car, I almost pass out and am left dry heaving into a bag. We finally arrive after the hour car ride, and AGAIN I almost pass out while standing at the check in counter for L&D, they place me in a wheelchair and into a room. Where in the room AGAIN I almost feel like passing out two more times during the stay. They ran a blood test and a urinalysis but come back saying every thing is “just fine” and “normal”, and that my baby on the monitor is just fine and even though I’m still having the feeling of verging on passing out that I’m just a mystery, they chalked it up to that I must not have eaten enough, even though a had a full breakfast and even a full lunch THAT THEY WATCHED ME EAT and discharged me. Reminder I’m STILL feeling like I’m going to pass out multiple times. But at least they offered me a wheelchair for my husband to wheel me out in. I continued to almost pass out for rest of yesterday and into this morning. They want to induce me at 39 weeks for unrelated things but to be honest I no longer feel safe being induced at a hospital that sends patients homes while they are actively verging passing out, especially since two times yesterday I almost fell and had I not managed to sit down first I could have fallen and seriously injured my baby and myself. I truly feel like if I allow them to induce me there that something really bad is going to happen especially since they won’t even listen to me now. I explained also that this was not just a one off, the other day I also felt like I was going to pass out at home, I called my doctors office and they said they would pass the message along to the nurse who never called me back. I also have had days occasionally starting in my second trimester where I felt like passing out randomly, I mentioned it to my old OBGYN in Huntington who was slightly more concerned but only if it persisted. But yesterday was the worse it has EVER been. I have never had an entire day of just almost passing out over and over again, normally it has been isolated incidents that don’t reoccur close together so I assumed it was just a blood sugar drop or high blood pressure. I just don’t feel safe at Ruby Memorial and I’m unsure what to do at this point, as I’m not being listened to, I also went into my chart to see what they noted which is when I found they didn’t chart the incident at my clinic at all, and at the hospital they didn’t chart it as almost passing out just “not feel good”. It was much more than not feeling good, I was faint, breaking out in a sweat, nauseous and weak. They also didn’t chart the symptoms that occurred just “feeling off”, they charted I denied feeling feverish even though I was breaking out in the sweats each time I almost passed out. It all just seems so backwards and wrong that they didn’t even listen to my symptoms or even worse that they did listen and actively chose not to chart them and...

July 2020 I wrecked a 4 wheeler and ended up breaking 3 ribs which went through my lung. Had a chest tube placed at my local hospital but WVU naturally bought out and shut down several vital components at the local hospital so off to ruby I was shipped. The ambulance had a broken regulator for their suction unit so I couldn't be hooked up to suction and therefore would've been better off having my wife take me home. Get to ruby and they have me listed as a trauma and bring in this entire team as though I'm being treated for a recent wreck. They didn't get the chest tube unit picked up and almost ripped it out of me as they switched me from one gurney to the next. I asked why I was getting all these tests as I had already been treated and stabilized 12 hours ago when I wrecke the quad at 4 pm and it's now almost 4 am. The room cleared and I was left lying on a bed staring at a bright light for several hours with nothing to do and Noone checking on me until a room opened up. I was then taken to the pediatric ward and had a nurse laugh and tell me how she got written up for almost killing me because she didn't open the valve for my suction unit so I wasn't getting the chest cavity cleared of fluid to let the lung re inflate. Another nurse ripped every scab off my body which was head to ankle on the left side because she was so rough applying neosporin. I refused all other applications of it after that and they charged me for the services anyways. I was getting x rays every 4 hours and the nurses made rude comments when I groaned trying stretch to grabbthe bars for the x ray insinuating I was faking the pain I was in with 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung. They also didn't allow me any hygiene for 6 days as I laid in on a bed with no air conditioning in July. It took my wife freaking out on them to bring me baby soap and a wash bed because I was smelling so bad she asked what the smell in the room was. My daughter fell out of a swing in April of 2014 and we took her to get x rays and her head and neck looked at. They sent us home and said no injuries. My wife asked for a second opinion at a doctor a few days later and found a fractured skull. When we were sent back to ruby for my daughter to be looked at again they called cys and had us investigated and the social worker even disclosed to my wife, who is also a social worker, she knew the hospital staff were just doing it to cover themselves because they knew they messed up. The things they're getting away with are just absolutely disgusting and the fact WVU essentially gets a free pass to destroy everything about morgantown...

My mom was transported to WVU a little over a week ago due to a fall that fractured her back and contracting COVID pneumonia and fluid build up on her chest and in her lungs. My mom has been in several facilities in the state of WV due to all of this in the past 3 months. We are from the southern part of WV. My 74 year old father is traveling to WVU to be at mothers side. Mom has been having issues with anxiety and becomes very stressed when left alone for long periods of time. The first week there the great nurses on the 9th floor SE took wonderful care of both my mom and dad and my father did not have to leave my mom and was allowed to stay in her private room. My mom ultimately ended up in CICU for several days and dad was unable to stay. Which we understood. Now my mother is back on the floor on the 8th floor SE in a private room and my father has been told he cannot stay. I don’t quite understand this… long story short called the nurses station on the 8th floor spoke with a nurse named Sherry who questioned me when I asked why my father was allowed to stay previously and not now. She asked me what makes my mom so special from all their other patients that have anxiety and do not want to be left alone and why my dad is so different then all the other family members that travel to be with their family in the hospital. First my parents aren’t any better then any other patients on the facility. However they are my parents and I was asking about their well being. Sherry I do hope you think about a career change because the way you spoke to me was uncalled for and I do hope you don’t treat or speak to your patients the way you did me! I even had to call back and speak with another nurse who was gracious enough to tell me who the manager was that Sherry transferred me to do that I could speak with them about my questions. Currently awaiting a call from Shawn or Sean that I have a feeling...
