Could have been better. Came in for a bottle of rose. No prices shown on the bottles, so need to bring the item to checkout to have them ring it up. The first bottle I brought up was Wolfer Estate Summer in a Bottle Cotes de Provence which one can usually acquire at $16-24. They quoted $31. Should I very pay up by an incremental 30-50% vs the Street? No. So I returned it to the shelf and selected a bottle I remembered to be cheaper (Josh Prosecco DOCG Rose, usu can get at $14-18), to see if the cashier would markup as much as the 1st. On the 2nd bottle, he quoted $21 (incremental 17-50% vs what I’d source away). At this point, not worth further study, they just have high cost structure, so I just paid and left*.
*Well one last exchange: I asked for a bag to take away safely (ie a normal bag - not a gift bag), and the cashier said “That’s another $1”.
With the healthy markup on wines, why not subsidize your $1 bag so people don’t drop their purchase outside. Too much to ask?
More broadly, may be just consider if this is the kind of interaction you want to have w customers and the community that supports you. If you made it this far w your business (which is something to be proud of, we all know it is not easy), then being one step better, or $1 more commercial, might make an outsized difference in perception, loyalty, longevity,...
Read moreno itemized receipts, and they’ll intentionally overcharge you. I bought a 12 pack of Yuengling for $14.99 and a 750 of Jack for $36.99 and the price came out to $69.95. with NJ’s 6.25% liquor tax, the price should have been around $56.00. on top of that, they rip open their 12 packs to remove the barcode, patch them up with scotch tape, and scan the code from a barcode sticker on their counter. this place is shady, and they scam their...
Read moreStay away if you can... at first it didn’t seem like a bad place but because nothing in the store has prices on it and they don’t offer itemized receipts, the owners will take advantage of anyone who is unsuspecting and charge them more for the same product that they will sell to others for cheaper. Myself and a friend bought the same 12 pack of miller at different times on the day and one of us got charged $22 and...
